>Pro wrestling will never going to go back to being mainstream
>Real fighting sports like MMA are becoming more popular and widely accepted
>WWE will only survive if it branches out into other countries (like they're doing now with poo-infested India and Jinder's push)
How does that make you feel?
>inb4 wrestlingforum

I personally think WWE should go more in a TV show way with some really over the top shit instead of trying to make it look like a "legitimate sport" which is quite frankly boring as fuck
>>
>>2803583
There is too many wrestlers not enough superstars.

Like you can't say wwe superstar to 99% of roster like the attitude era
>>
>>2803609
Because they're not really given any characters, gimmicks, or anything to work with to try and get over so we mostly just get happy to be here guys who will never become big unless Vince randomly sees something in one and puts a rocket in his ass.
>>
>>2803574
>>Real fighting sports like MMA are becoming more popular and widely accepted

Well, UFC actually won't have any big draw left if Conor should leave after the fight against Mayweather. So they aren't exactly in a great position either.

The WWE has the big problem, that they either on purpose or by accident don't produce any stars anymore. Everything is so scripted, the booking is so bad, the writing is so bad, that no one really gets over, specially not as a babyface.

Bullshit. WWE has booked a preventably shitty show for the last 13 years. I suspect when Vince finally passes away, we'll see more good changes than bad. Pro Wrestlers like The Rock, and Batista are making big money in Hollywood because they ooze mainstream appeal. Vince just doesn't know what the fuck he is doing anymore, and doesn't understand why he was successful in the first place.
>>
>>2803583
that's their niche but since smarks who keep pushing for more "realism" are now the majority of fans it seems unlikely for them to go back to that format
>>
It needs to present itself as a sport but obviously a parody of a sport. The humor will be more successful if they tried to present it in a serious way. I'm talking weight classes and rankings, and straight faced studio hosts throwing it to the announce team or a backstage report. Also more ridiculous backstage stuff like when Braun threw Roman off the dock

Also stop making the top guys wrestle 300 nights a year and switch to a faster paced style with tv matches being a big deal. Let the main event scrubs handle the house shows

Lastly they need better announcers that can sell the show and effectively help progress the intended storylines. Cole and company are shit. JR is the goat and is still alive. A JR/Stone Cold Raw announce team would bring back the casuals
>>
>>2803574
If Vince Russo was wrote RAW TV and RAW had roster consisting of
>Roman Reigns
>Braun Strowman
>Jinder Mahal
>Randy Orton
>Big Show
>Kurt Angle
>Hardy Boys
>Brock Lesnar (works at least 4 televised shows per month)
>John Cena (full-time)
>Batista
>Goldberg
>Kevin Nash
>Bobby Lashley
I beg to differ wrestling couldn't/wouldn't be more mainstream in 2017

Wrestling doesn't have STARS anymore. Anybody who is a STAR power/presence needs to be signed. Vinny Ru would then create exciting episodic TV using STARS and wrestling would regain some of it's popularity.
>>
>>2803651
Forgot to add they need more parodies of current sports events, like how the Titus Brand pokes fun at Lamar Ball's Big Baller Brand or have Orton get addicted to Oxy's and self destruct in a Tiger Woods gimmick or make an angle that makes fun of the whole "superteam" debate going on in the NBA rn
>>
One of the big problems with wrestling is that it's been a joke for a very long time. It will never be able to overcome the stigma that Vince McMahon has given it. It's low brow, redneck trash.
>>
>>2803656
THIS

also add Triple H

plus bring back sex appeal....hot women scantily clad
>>
>>2803628
>and doesn't understand why he was successful in the first place.
He got lucky

Keep in mind that Austin got over by accident
>>
>>2803689
>plus bring back sex appeal....hot women scantily clad
This is what made wrestling a joke to watch in the mid 00's in the first place.

18+
>>
>>2803690
>Keep in mind that Austin got over by accident
I think you mean Austin got pushed by accident. Austin getting over wasn't an accident.
>>
>>2803708
The Austin 3:16 promo wasn't scripted, he came up with it on the spot.

>Got pushed by accident
His push was deliberate, how he got popular wasn't. Even the ending of the Bret Hart match wasn't scripted.

Today's heavily scripted product doesn't allow for stuff like this to happen.

Not even watching RAW right now (And I dont intend to)
>>
>>2803733
>His push was deliberate
He wasn't supposed to win KoTR, then Bret basically hand-picked him, and then Shawn lost his smile and catapulted Austin into the WM13 match.
>>
>>2803754
You're only proving me right. Everything that led him to that moment wasn't deliberate.

If HHH hadn't messed up with the Kliq, then he wouldn't have won KoTR, and he wouldn't have had a chance to cut that promo (which wasn't scripted)

All this stuff happened by stars aligning perfectly for him, not cause of anything genius that Vince thought of.
>>
>>2803801
>Everything that led him to that moment wasn't deliberate.
Are you fucking with me? You literally just said that his push was deliberate

His push wasn't deliberate, and he got over because he was fucking good, not by accident. I don't even know what getting over by accident means.
>>
>>2803699
>bashing mid 00's WWE which had millions of more viewers than current sanitised WWE

If you truly think slutty women made wrestling a joke you're a moron. Sex sells. Always has. Hot women doing slutty things was the highest rated stuff WWE did in mid 00's e.g. Edge and Lita's "sex celebration" did attitude era numbers.
>>
>>2803656
Unironically this. Wrestling right now tries to take itself seriously while at the same time giving a wink to the audience that this is bullshit. What they need to do is honestly go the route of spic underground and completely be zany and interesting.

>>2803699
>thinking anybody would believe this
>>
>>2803733
>Even the ending of the Bret Hart match wasn't scripted.
The WM one?

Austin himslef described Bret Hart pitching the bleeding idea to him.
It's one of the reason he's always incredibly respectful towards Bret Hart in his podcasts.

NJPW has infiltrated anime and Tekken without a problem. G1 climax still manages to enter major sports news in Japan every year.

Blame WWE for not being intelligent enough to secure their popculture in at least USA.
>>
>>2803867
There's bashing and there's actually being realistic you idiot.

>If you truly think slutty women made wrestling a joke you're a moron. Sex sells.

That's exactly what they did, you see the first bra and panties match happened in WCW as a last gasp attempt to get viewers right before they died a painful death.

When WWE went the softcore porn route, they isolated a huge chunk of their audience, parents weren't comfortable letting their kids watch this stuff, mature adults (aka not you) got put off by it, and instead it got a lot of hate in the mainstream for being chauvinistic.

There was a slight bump in ratings but nothing sustainable, if you look at the ratings graph you still see the ratings dropping during the ruthless aggression era and no amount of boobs could stop that. This trend went on until 2008, and they decided to completely flip the script and make it a kid's show, and this off course pissed off the teenage/college age male demographic who also stopped watching, so then you got stuck with a product that alienated a huge portion of its fanbase for horny dudes and then turned around and alienated the horny dudes for the little kids and soccer moms/dads they alienated before.

Pillow matches were what gave WWE the redneck white trash stereotype in the first place.
>>
>>2803984
Okada is not for sexual
>>
>>2803574
>wrestling is dated
>there are better sports and drama in tv already

Then why isn't WWE exploiting what's popular and integrating it into their programming? Look what's popular now:
>comic book movies
>The walking dead
>video games
>politics and social unrest

WWE should be trying to ape what makes stuff like that interesting to draw attention to them. I was saying this in a RAW thread two weeks ago where if Rusev and Lana were still a Russian duo they could be cutting promos on the Russian hacking fiasco going on RIGHT NOW. It's ridiculous how they never managed to capitalize on anything trendy or controversial.
>>
>>2804744
This is what I'm talking about here>>2803670

Wrestling could get to a level like Saturday Night Live or South Park where whenever a ridiculous/controversial story dominates the news feeds that week people tune into Raw to see how they riff on it.

That is assuming they actually are clever and not embarrassing which currently they have a hard time with
>>
>>2803628
>Vince's mother is still alive
>>
>>2804744
>comic book movies
>The walking dead
>video games
wwe is as unoriginal and watered down as it gets. no one is going to suddenly start watching it just because of le pop culture references. all it'll do is turn off even more people from tuning in because of how much more cringey it would become
>politics and social unrest
you're fucking delusional if you think that's a good decision from a business perspective
>>
>>2804850

His grandma also lived past 100.

But business metrics for ROH and NJPW pro wrestling are all up.

Maybe it's just that WWE is hot shit, and because it's the only remotely "mainstream" wrestling product today, casuals mistake it's decline for wrestling's decline.

It remains to be seen, however, if ROH or NJPW can crack that "mainstream" threshold and really start bringing in new fans like the WWE used to, or if they'll basically be hoarding up the wrestling fans that stop watching WWE but still want wrestling, who, unfortunately, will go away as the WWE dies and there's no "casual" entry point into wrestling fandom. At least on this continent anyway, NJPW is doing just fine in Japan and can easily continue to do so should the WWE fall of the face of the earth tomorrow.

ROH almost certainly won't, because Sinclair doesn't really give enough of a shit to pay stars Star Money to stick around and actually make a bid for relevancy. They're content with some cheaply produced, easy-made television that gets some dependable ratings in a slot that they otherwise have nothing worth a shit for, occasionally making some extra money of PPVs and shit.

NJPW might have a legit shot at becoming mainstream in America within the next five years. They just need a good marketing and distribution angle. Cable TV is tricky, streaming services like Netflix are also tricky, and trying a hybrid is even trickier. We'll see

>>2803873

>What they need to do is honestly go the route of spic underground and completely be zany and interesting.

Russo would be THE WORST person to put in charge of something like that. This is a man that can't keep an angle or characterization going for more than two consecutive weeks without ruining it with some nonsense, continuity shattering swerve.

You're the one getting defensive over bra and panties matches, so you probably try to get softcore porn any way you can you pathetic loser.

The fact is, it never drew, it was pathetic and it drove people away. Goldberg says it was a huge part of why he left, I know you must've been 8 at the time and got your first boner from them, but it's time to accept the facts you acne-ridden teenager.

Russo gets a lot of shit, and rightly so. But he knew how to keep a show interesting and show not tell. I am not saying Russo should be rehired, but somebody whose not a mark and has a mentality like Russos should start writing for the show.
>>
>>2806702
>>2806797
Pretty much this.
>British wrestling is in the first boom period in like 30 years
>ROH, despite being mercilessly poached by Haitch, just had one of their best fiscal years
>NJPW growing internationally
Maybe Vince should stop catering to casuals with outdated """comedy""" shit and irrelevant celebs?
>>
>>2804004
You might want to check the demographics for WWE today. It's mostly old men who watched it as kids.

The attitude era was edgy, it was full of sex and hardcore violence. No one gave a shit about women's wrestling and never will give a shit, but as a cheap excuse for some fap fodder it works. Put in some eye candy, give guys a piss break and you're good to go.

It also turns out that little kids don't care about sexual content as it goes right over their head in most cases.
>>
>>2806911
British wrestling isn't doing shit man. I'm in the UK and never hear anything about it.
>>
>>2803574
Well you can't get crazy jocks and rednecks cutting insane coke fueled promos, which you can also not get in wrestling currently.
>>
>>2806790
I'm a relatively new wrestling fan and I love LU way more than I ever enjoyed WWE in my life. Actually stopped watching it completely.
>>
>>2806911

Serious question:
Do you only watch wrestling if it is held in a venue of a certain size? And a certain number of people are in attendance?
What is your limit/threshold on venue size/audience size before you will watch wrestling?

Also who made you this way, how did you develop these weird OCD preconditions about what wrestling you are allowed to enjoy?
why does indy wrestling running small venues trigger you so badly that you rage about it on the Internet?
>>
>>2807393
I give up, I can see why you think 18 people instead of 12 is a huge thing for an industry. I'm sure Doris is really enjoying the WWF UK roster as she waits for 32 to be called so she can buy an extra pack of Mr Kiplins this week.
