Let's pretend he was a good announcer back in the day (he was inconsistent; sometimes very good, sometimes atrocious, never really played off heenan/jesse well and they both gave him plenty to work with)

there's no way he would be able to commentate today in today's style, he probably doesnt even know what twitter is. that and he's just fucking old. cole and jbl will be as old as wwe would like to go. they'll develop and stick with younger guys before they bring schiavone in. the fact they haven't brought back Ross (the GOAT) full-time should be telling.
