Hi, /asp/, never done martial arts before. I recently found a Jiu Jitsu/Muay Thai gym in my town. They let me practice in a couple classes, and I loved the Muay Thai class and want to start immediately. The problem is, 6 years ago, I was in a bad car accident got a traumatic brain injury. I managed to make a full recovery pretty quickly, but I'm worried if I get hit too hard one day while practicing, I might be fucked in the head and not recover.
I'm not looking to compete in fights or tournaments or anything, but even just training and sparring people in the gym, is it too risky to take up Muay Thai with a brain injury? Sorry if it sounds stupid even asking, I just really enjoyed it and want to train in it.
Sounds risky. Leave it.

Yeah, I would ask a physician about this, and quite probably also the coach so he's aware of your condition.
Yeah, it sounds risky, so try to keep the full contact sparring at minimum.

Why the fuck are you asking 4chan? First ask your doctor, than talk to the couch if cleared by the doc, then take it easy and keep full contact to a minimum

Might want to only spar without head contact.
>do Muay Thai, turn into vegetable after asshole training partner spazzes out
or
>do jiu-jitsu, which is way better, way more fun, way more sustainable long term, and infinitely less chance of getting a concussion

Yeah, good point, I'll make an appointment with my doctor and see what he says about it.

I've thought about that, but I just didn't enjoy the jiu jitsu class as much. Don't get me wrong, the class was really cool, but I just really liked the punching and kicking and sparring in Muay Thai more.
If my doctor visit tells me no kickboxing, then I'll probably take up jiu jitsu.
