Isn't that generally how they used to do it?
I remember Nitro always opening with matches; though, RAW would tend to open with a promo being cut by one of the top talents regarding what happened last week or last night at a PPV.
He is also right about no competition. Lack of competition has RUINED the product because they have zero direction.

Pretty much. Starting out with a 20 minute promo segment every week really kills the show IMO. There's no reason to do it unless it's the 1st show after a PPV or the go home to it.

Yep. It feels like they do promos now just to do them -- and, of course, for Haitch/Steph to get camera time.
I can't entirely blame them because they had 3 hours to fill and 20 minutes of promo cuts that down.
