When pewdiefag pulled his nazi stunt he gave people who hate him an excuse to brigade his advertisers, this cascaded down to google getting asked "wait, we're paying you for this shit?" and then google introducing a new categorisation method.

If you/your videos get put in the bad categories (religion, sex, offensive language, politics, violence etc), the well paying advertisers abandon you enmasse and your videos can get demonetised, or only get half, or even a quarter of what they might have paid before.

Of course, this all boils down to the fact that google loses a shit-ton of money on youtube, content creators should have seen this coming years ago, and if they weren't lazy, would already be on patreon, twitch and have their own website.
