>TRADITIONAL MARTIAL ARTS BTFO

A tai chi master’s 10-second pounding at the hands of a mixed martial arts (MMA) fighter in western China last week has set off a debate over the virtues of traditional versus modern fighting techniques.
MMA fighter Xu Xiaodong wiped the floor with tai chi master Wei Lei when they faced off in front of a big crowd in Chengdu, Sichuan province, on Thursday, according to a video posted online.

No, he's a real tai chi practitioner. It just turns out that martial arts are garbage unless you spar against opponents. And not opponents who play by the same rules you play by.

This is BS, Tai Chi is the pre-requisite to learning the chinese martial art.
It's literally meditation, and trains you to get the most power out of every strike.
Lets see this stupid chink go up against a real martial art like Pankration, Wing Chun, Hapkido, Boxing man i can go on and on.
Shit smells staged.
Also Boxing is probably the best street fighting martial are you can learn, if any anons are wondering.

Who learns tai chi for defense anyway? It might as well be yoga.

This is all well and good, but no real application in the reality of the streets. In common practice, street fights basically boil down to who launches the first punch, which is oftentimes a sucker punch.

Growing up in a black neighborhood, I learned very early on never to let them get the first punch, and always be on guard for the black boy sucker punch.
>>
>>2604799
This is actually true - almost always street fight takes place at the standing ground and without using kicks so even when you're trained mma fighter you usually try to solve the fight with fists maybe sometimes with some front kick because it's most convenient and you don't expect other guy to be trained boxer and you get knocked out because good boxer is almost always going to win hand to hand battle with anyone. In a situation when mixed fighter knows that the other guy knows only boxing then it's most likely going for the mma guy in my opinion

Boys just learn how to stab/pummel them down and you're good, the rest is achieving discipline and know how.

Scariest bastards I ever knew used elements from martial in their technique, but not the full deal.

Go look at CQC and the styles/techniques the various SoF guys use, THAT is your murderfist style you want apparently.

Life is not a kung fu movie, but neither is it a bullish brawl, it's all about balance. Like I said if you want to see the "real deal" look at American/British/Russian special forces technique.

Bruce Lee's style was more like MMA than anything at the time lel

Not to say he developed some magical way to victory, but he had the most "modern" sort of style at the time when he developed it, guy knew what he was doing.
>>
>>2604810
Big glove vs small/no glove styles.

Most boxing requires your dominant hand to the rear in order to maximize power and get a knockout with those fuckhuge gloves on. Small glove/no glove doesn't require as much power, and allows for more varied styles.

A big exception to boxing is vasyl lomechenko. He uses a fencing style that leads with his right hand, and uses it to gauge distance, much like Bruce Lee.

Whenever he fights against traditional boxers they don't know what's going on, and his footwork is astounding.

There is no best style. Only ways to beat other styles. It's all rock paper scissors and cortisol management.

There is no debate at all. Everyone with at least some knowledge in fighting knows that Boxing and wrestling will beat anything else hands down.

That said, they require serious commitment and serious injuries and concussions are unavoidable as you practice, while some more traditional fighting schools like Karate, taequondo and kung-fu will still help you without a loss of time and health.

>>
>>2604836
Yeah, Ip man was a great movie, but even when taken seriously the main benefit of tai chi-like styles were how different it was from the rigid karate of the invaders.

Doing something your opponent hasn't trained for is very effective. That doesn't mean that you can't take any style to it's extreme. Masutatsu Oyama is a great example of taking karate to it's extreme. His exhibitions against 300 other fighters, as well as killing bulls in a single blow earned him the nickname "Godhand."

>>2604844
HUZZAH! I have thus created a DISTRACTION!
>>
>>2604788
>has set off a debate
This debate started and ended decades ago right with the beginning of Mixed Martial Arts. It started with Bruce Lee's admission there there is no perfect style of traditional martial arts and that you can only progress as a martial artist by taking the best techniques from multiple styles and that train of thought is reflected in the MMA we see today.

If you're an MMA fighter you still train in single discipline styles like boxing, muay thai, kickboxing, wrestling, judo, and brazillian jiu-jitsu, and you blend those techniques in MMA. There is no "style" of MMA it's just a ruleset.

Will try to find a video but the combination I'm familiar with is:
Yang style Tai Chi (not that Chen crap of questionable lineage, basic 24 posture is basic and good)
San Shou/Sanda
Shuai Jiao

Tai Chi normally provides an amazing base, rooting, mechanics, etc. That guy was a complete fuckup, and even then had apparently had some San Shou training which makes this even more pitiful.
>>
>>2604830
what the fuck are you talking about.

you don't punch harder with gloves off. you punch harder with gloves on.

look up art "one glove" jimmerson as an example of a fighter who brought a boxing glove into an MMA fight for retarded reasons, but the reason being because you can punch harder with the glove on.

the stance you are describing is just converted southpaw.

You can look at Conor McGregor's performance in MMA now, and while he's not a Tai Chi practitioner, it's clear he gets his competitive edge from a focus on fluid movement and balance.

It's like Initial D - if you've seen it. Takumi balances a cup of water in his car while he drifts. This makes him a MUCH better racer than anybody else when he is in a battle.

The problem with most martial arts is that everyone just plays along. Nobody ever really fights.

It's not as bad as american taekwondo, at least.
>>
Martial arts is a mostly all show. A real useful one because it's more modern and simple, as well as practical is sambo. Which is just an acronym for fighting system.

It doesn't have any complicated or awkward positioning (like in jiu jitsu which I respect a lot).

A useful move from it is just to pick up your opponent by the the back of their legs which makes them fall on their back and then quickly transition to ground and pounding their face in.

That didn't look anything like the Tai Chi everyone knows to be Tai Chi.

It's like saying Toyotas are super fast cars, but while everyone is thinking of a Corolla you're talking about pic related.
>>
>>2604856
I'm saying with big gloves on, you have to punch harder.

Bareknuckle requires less power to get a knockout. I'm not saying boxing is ineffective, just that it comes with it's own drawbacks and predictability especially against seasoned mma fighters. I guess you could say it's converted southpaw, but watch lomechenko fight. He's doing so much more than southpaw. It's more akin to fencing and distance management, with it's quick footwork and unorthodox rhythm.

Just watch lomechenko fight. You'll see what I mean. Calling it just southpaw doesn't fit quite right.
>>
>>2604866
I'm putting a stake in the ground. Modern Chen style is not real Tai Chi.

Chen village used to produce amazing Chen-style Tai Chi fighters. After the cultural revolution they lost that edge. There are still plenty of Yang-style instructors that train their younger, fitter students to fight. There are still some Chen lineages that produce good fighters but they are in the US, Taiwan and Canada and the fighters are mostly San Shou plus Tai Chi.

This is a problem in many Chinese martial arts. The Great Leap Forward absolutely dicked the fighting temples and villages.
>>
>>2604788
Many arts into one combined with punches vs one art that never changes anymore.
