your first few draft pick don't matter. sign the highest popularity characters to 5 week contracts. Trade to the AI for it's top picks. AI is retarded and will give up a wrestler with a 6 to 8 month contract for one with just a few weeks left. Do this and save a million dollars. With any luck, the AI will eventually release your trades into the free agent pool anyway and you can resign them.
