Revisiting Royal Rumble 1999
-SCSA opens at n.1 getting a huge pop, Vince McMahon himself enters at n.2. We are at almost the peak of their rivalry, arguably the best singles one of all times. Kudos to Vince for going through various humiliations to please the crowd.
-As soon as the match starts and Austin gets his hands on Vince, the crowd roars and is out for blood. Austin is realizing the dream of every American fed up with corporate politically correct culture, flipping off his boss and beating the crap out of him. Vince eventually manages to escape, regroup with the Corporation and embush Austin in the women's toilet.
-unlike the previous 2 years, WWF now has a large roster of its own, without the need of borrowing wrestlers from other federations because HBK didn't draw a dime. Austin alone pays everyone's salary
-in the new roster, you can spot a young Edge
-Mable/Viscera/Big Daddy V is the first to clear the ring and get a push, he's then kidnapped by Undertaker, noone in the crowd cares
-Vince (still in the Rumble) sits at the commentator table
-Kane enters to a giga pop, second only to Austin, then eliminates himself for some dumb reason
-HHH, Owen Hart (very much like the previous year) are the only others to get pops, along with Chyna
-Gillberg is eliminated by Edge within seconds, much to the crowd's hilarity
-Taker kidnapping angle that noone cares about serves for the return of Austin to the Rumble, driving an ambulance. I chuckled myself when I saw this even though I knew it was going to happen. Absolutely gold. The crowd goes wild as soon as it notices the bald head driving.
-Chyna enters at n 30 (first woman ever), she had won the spot in a battle royal on Raw, thanks to Austin. She gets a good pop, eliminates Mark Henry for a nother good pop then is eliminated herself by Austin who stay true to his asshole character, regardless of the fact they are both ''face''

-the last 4 are Austin, Dlo Brown, Big Bossman and HHH, who's eliminated first. Vince is still in the Rumble though.
-Austin had a 100k bounty, noone cashed it
-it ends as it started, Vince vs Austin, Rock interferes causing Vince to win.
-the whole storyline (Austin embushed, forced to leave, returning, corporate figure winning in the end) was copy pasted by WWE last year, in another failed attempt to get Roman Reigns over. During the entire segments the crowd was dead and cheered only when HHH won. (Making it 3 major copy pasted storylines Roman failed Cena, Bryan and Austin)
As you can notice from the previous reviews, this Rumble had a lot more steak to burn and it was just great. You'd think that Vince winning would hurt it, but it fit perfectly.
The Rumble happens few weeks after the Fingerpoke/Mankind win night and by now WWF has changed the tide with consistence.
Austin is mainstream because he's doing what every middle class and working class American would want to. WWE should take that into account considering how society is rejecting political correctness again.
