ITT: Biggest letdowns to angles, feuds, and missed opportunities in the wrestling industry.

I'll start.

WCW had the crowd Red-hot in the winter of '99, but failed to deliver either time Flair, and Hogan locked up for the world title during this period.
Superbrawl in particular stands out, as the payoff for the masked man was a lackluster, David Flair screwing over his father to help
Hogan retain.

It would all be for nothing when Hogan put over Flair the following month, with a screwjob-double turn finish at Uncensored.

Hogan beats down David flair in January.
David beats down Ric, joins Hogan &a nWo in February.
Hogan turns face in march while putting over Flair.

Makes you wonder why the company went under...
>>
>Hogan as a "tough-guy" face

This was so fucking terrible holy shit.
>>
hogan vs flair at superbrawl actually did the 3rd highest buyrate in company history (485k)

it was all downhill from there though

Never said it wasn't a draw, nor did I say it wasn't good leading up to that PPV (I bought those 3 in a row).
In hindsight though, what the fuck? captured lightning in a bottle during January, only to do that weeks later??

WCW is the story of missed opportunities. Usually due to Hogan's fucking ego.

They consistently failed to EVER put Sting over, instead keeping the nWo running long after anyone had stopped caring, making Sting look like an utter chump in the process.

They completely ruined The Streak because of Kevin Nash's ego, when they had a great chance to make a giant star out of DDP, or could have given the rub to Benoit or Jericho for huge momentum.

This was probably past the point of no return, but they took Booker T, who was pretty goddamn over with whoever was still watching, and turned him into GI Booker.

The WWE is no stranger to terrible ends to potentially good feuds and angles. Just in relatively recent history, they completely ruined the Miz v Mizdow feud, which was the hottest in the company during an otherwise fucking horrible Wrestlemania season, by sticking it in the Andre The Giant Memorial Jobber Derby instead of giving it the 1v1 match it deserved and people wanted to see. And then having it peeter out to nothing on throw-away RAW segments.

The Stardust vs Goldust feud could have been good if the WWE didn't fucking sandbag it the entire way.

Cm Punk vs Cena feud could have been SO GOOD, but it was ruined by the WWE refusing to actually let Punk go over and sandbagging him with shitty Triple Threat matches where he could steal the pin. The excellent Punk vs Cena match on RAW after the title had already been taken off Punk just showed how good that feud could have been if Vince wasn't a retard.

Ziggler winning at Survivor Series to ban the Authority was rendered completely meaningless when Cena brought them back for no good reason.

Oh, and less recently, the InVasion was the drizzling shits.

Well said mate, well said.

>They consistently failed to EVER put Sting over, instead keeping the nWo running long after anyone had stopped caring, making Sting look like an utter chump in the process.

hulk put his ass over for a year

>They completely ruined The Streak because of Kevin Nash's ego, when they had a great chance to make a giant star out of DDP, or could have given the rub to Benoit or Jericho for huge momentum.

those guys werent a draw.
>>
>>2290019
>hulk put his ass over for a year

Yeah, like how Cena put Bray over in 2014?
>>
>>2290019
>those guys werent a draw.
kevin nash is literally only famous today for not drawing shit

I like the guy's work, but literally every other guy mentioned in your post is more of a household name than Kevin Nash.
>>
>>2290097
The pop that Nash got when he came back as Diesel in that Royal Rumble was bigger that any pop Jericho ever got in his pathetic career. Benoit only ever got 1 pop bigger than that and it was only because HHH was such a masterful heel.
>>
>>2290123
>pretending a surprise Royal Rumble pop is worth anything

Jericho getting a phantom WWF Title victory over HHH is a bigger pop than Dieseletty has ever gotten in his life.

>>2290123

Another one:
Scott Steiners run in 2003.

He came in with a the monstrous body, crazed antics/rants, and still could go-----ish.
Solid main event run for 6-9 months if booked right.
What happens though?
HHH sandbags him during his first ppv match, and we all know HHH can make anyone look decent.
Where is the business logic in burying SS?

>video package promos for months.
>debuted before main event at Survivor Series '02, in MSG.
>2 world title matches, back to back.

To

>Being excluded from Wrestlemania 19 the following month.
>putting over 'HHH Lite', Test.

How was that best for business?
>>
>>2290665
He couldn't go. You didn't watch the rumble? He still should have beat triple h at mania though in a match and play up steiner beating Goldberg before and do a triple threat with Gaytch
>>
>>2290813
He may not have been the best worker then, but you're right, they should have gave him a rematch at mania. Make it about HHH running through EX-WCW talent until GOLDBERG comes over as the end boss.
Burying them into oblivion was just absurd though.

The exploding limo was flat out scrapped and Vince appeared on TV alive when Benoit did his deed.
>>
>>2290919
I always wondered....how the exploding limo storyline was supposed to end? Was it even a big storyline?

Does Meltzer or anyone said something about it on those days?
>>
>>2290933
It was probably supposed to be Shane. Vince was always looking to set up an infighting angle.
>>
The Invasion angle is the biggest letdown in wrestling history.
>>
WHATS IN SHANE'S FUCKING LOCKBOX
>>
>>2291001
It always comes back to the big money McMahons in the end
>>
>>2291006
kek

he's going to open it and on the underside of the lid it will read NWO.
>>
>>2290933
"Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter says the plan was to have Vince return in the summer claiming that he faked his death. He was then going to reveal an accomplice with several names being mentioned for the role. Mr. Kennedy was a top candidate as WWE wanted to build him in to a top bad guy."

I think that's why we had the legit son of Vince angle a few months later but this time Kennedy fucked that up.
>>
>>2290191
stop trying to be edgy faggot
>>
>>2290665
Because he's a shit fucking wrestler who's a liability
>>
>>2291013

>Fake his death just to come back and say he did it not half a year later

For what fucking purpose?

A common thread in many of of the WWE Failed Storylines is their dumbasses chasing MOMENTS instead of actually telling a story worth a shit and letting the moments come from the climax and resolution of those stories.

Like that interminable Sasha v Charlotte feud. That might have been good if they actually bothered to establish characters and motivations for Sasha and Charlotte and make THEM the centerpiece of the feud. Instead, Sasha and Charlotte received secondary billing behind MUH WOMEN'S REVOLUTION and a goddamn pointless gimmick match.
