This happened in a game and the offending players didn't get sent off. What the fuck you could cause some permanent spinal damage by pulling something like this, especially with the speed with which it happened.

The sir probably just didn't see it or saw it at an angle that didn't look as savage. Rugby has astounding potential for dirty play, the only reason a person doesn't rake everyone else's eyes out is because of the mutual understanding that you'd get torn apart if you played that dirty. Also refs could call off a game, I saw that once before but it was less due to dirty play and more due to petulant bullshit by one of the teams.
