WWE probably wants to keep him down in NXT for about a year, which is something he has said mnay times before he has no interest in doing. Besides the WWE roster is so stacked right now they'd probably have no good use of him, especially since he wouldn't have as much creative freedom as he does now.

My guess is that he's going to stay in New Japan for another year or two, win the IWGP title once or twice and then pull an AJ and go straight to the main roster. He's still only 33, no sense in making a poorly timed jump to WWE.

That aside, I'm really glad he decided to stay in Japan. I watch both NJPW and WWE and my overall enjoyment is greater with him in Japan since WWE has no real need for more wrestlers right now.
