I think Cena doing one of his most blatant superhuman recoveries to beat Justin Gabriel and Barrett one after the other made the group look like total shit and started a serious downward spiral for the angle, I can't fault people for shitting on Cena over that one especially since them going over would've held things together more nicely until John got to literally bury Barrett under chairs to end their feud.

Having said that, I didn't like The Nexus. It wasn't a bad idea but not a single one of its members was in any way prepared for the level of top billing they got. They were all pretty terrible both on the ring and the mic at the time and had zero character beyond "Nexus guy", and none of them save possibly for Barrett and the soon-injured Ryback in any way looked or felt like they had anything going for them but being part of the group.

nWo was, at least at first, an elite group of top competitors all of whom could've had singles success. The Nexus was literally a bunch of rejects whose sole strength was being a large stable.
