If it wasn't so terribly egregious how desperately they want Roman to succeed he'd be in a much better spot. They're coddling him and refusing to acknowledge the audience's opinion in favor of their own outlook. They gotta let him sink or swim of his own accord, but they just don't get it.

He's not even 2005-07 levels of Cena over where he got split crowds all the time, it's either disinterest or practically universal hate. He still puts in great matches, but I can't remember the last time a program with Roman was genuinely good. His stuff with AJ was some flashy shit, though.
