If Roman were set free as a heel on the mic and in the ring he'd be over as fuck.
The last match I saw him in was against Seth Rollins and he wrestled like an asshole who knew he was superior. If he was meant to be heel in that situation I would have marked for him.
It's the same reason why the Usos make great heels. There's an arrogance that makes them great characters to love or hate.

Technical wrestling ability doesn't mean jack shit to 99% of fans. Storytelling ability, charisma, presence, etc ALWAYS takes priority. Guys who can tell a good story in the ring don't even need technical ability, because technical ability doesn't get people personally invested in the match or the people in it.
