WCW was already dying and irrelevant, hence his strategies were based around bring any attention to it to try and go for the long shot of bringing the ratings up with novelty to prevent it being cut by Turner long enough to rebuild. This actually worked in terms of bringing the rating up some, but it wasn't enough to prevent it's death. He was also just the writer of the show. Bischoff was the guy actually in charge of WCW when it spiraled down into the state it was at, and the guy responsible for the thing (the talents contract in terms of creative control) that actually caused so many issues even when Russo was writing.

When he was writer in TNA it reached the highest rated period it ever had. It was after Hogan and Bischoff were put in charge that that peak was lost and it started the same downward trend that WCW experienced.

Bischoff is the guy that killed WCW and TNA. Russo was just a writer writing to appeal to the audience based upon studying the ratings.

As much as I don't like Hogan I genuinely can't blame him for the shit he did in both of these companies when you have your boss by the balls as hard as he did with Bischoff, almost any wrestler would dream of having that kind of control. The sad thing is Bischoff still was his bitch 10 years after WCW closed. If Hogan told him to jump off a bridge, Eric would have probably taken his family with him as well.

But three of the things you said aren't true: he didn't create the Attitude Era or any of its best gimmicks (Austin, Rock etc), WCW stagnated massively with him there even after they cut the third hour off Nitro, and he cost TNA a TV deal and booked a lot of shit matches and angles, before and after Bischoff/Hogan. He was there for WWF's success and hurt the other companies massively, because he's a shit booker.
