Just join an MMA gym or class that has sparring. That's really all you need. Specializing in a specific part of fighting is useless if you're just looking for health and self defense.

self-defence isnt as clear cut as most people think.

its a balance between what "will keep me safe" and "what will keep me from being sued".
if you go do boxing and punch a guy out cold for merely pushing you on the shoulder you can get sued for massive money.
likewise, a gun or knife are the most sure way to be safe, but carry the biggest risk of killing your attacker and land you in jail
