Traditional Chinese Martial Arts Thread? (Shoalin, Win chun, Animal Styles)
>>
>>1760880

So tell me. What's the draw in practicing gook arts? They have been proven to be less effective than mma or sambo. Is it a jackie chan movie fantasy, or some weeb fetish?
>>
>>1760983
>weeb
>chinese

Kung fu was used in warfare sorry it doesnt do good in your UFC sport
>>
>>1764971
Usually the person who starts the thread also starts the conversation, why not tell us what CMA you do or what interests you?
>>
>>1764971
>he fell for the too deadly art of war meme

This

There's a right way and a wrong way to open a dialogue, this is the right one.
>>
>>1760983
You get to say shit like this
>>1764971

The only appeal to training CMA is getting to tell people you're deadly without ever having to do regular live sparring. It's for frauds and idiots.

Not less effective, merely less conductive to working in a certain environment that suits already practiced combat sports more than MA that don't use rigs and gloves

He's>>1764971 partly right and was answering a question. If>>1760983 wanted to start a conversation, he shouldn't have thrown around wrong generalizations and insults about what he clearly had not interest in bothering to understand.
>>1765111
Kung fu and most unarmed martial arts have roots on the battlefeild and/or were used in battle. Hence, why the word martial arts exists in the first place.
>>1766047
>this is the right one.
This >>1766085 is also the wrong way
>>1766304
Nothing wrong with either of those styles if you treat them like mcdojo bullshit

Look man I love the Chinese internals. They are a lot of fun to practice and a good alternative to other forms of exercise especially as you get older. But man, who are you fooling? Have you ever sparred a guy hitting you in the face before? I'm not saying Chinese stuff
Wasn't relevant at one time but this isn't the feudal era and we aren't fighting in a lawless wasteland anymore. A couple of internal guys do bjj because it's effective. Chinese stuff is a mixed bag.
>>

>without ever having to do regular live sparring.

What the fuck are you talking about? In any mcdojo you won't do any sparring, but they will certify you as a living ass kicking machine. That isn't exclusive to CMA and there are plenty of schools based on CMA that do a lot of sparring.

Personally, I trained choy lee fut (granted, not a traditional art in the sense of being thousand years old, but is from the 1800, so is roughly as old as judo) for 3 years, and we did sparring every class. I got my jaw dislocated after a kick, got my back bashed against the floor and more than once we finished with purple and green bruises. We went to tournaments, but also did a lot of these drills and forms you seem to hate so much.

Is this the norm? Sadly, not. But there are still valid schools that train full contact kung fu, and is still as good as many other supposed "serious" MA like kyokushin.
>>
>>1764971
So has boxing, judo, Japanese jujutsu, brazilian jiujitsu (by way of the modern army combatives program), karate, wrestling, sambo, mauy thai, and just about every other effective art you see in mma you elitist cock.
>>
>>1767554
>can't even write the names of the schools properly
>brings up Shaolin which is a meme even in China
>continues to spout the too deadly, "this was used in war once" crap
>oh look it's like the one set of videos of Wing Chun doing well everyone's already seen

People like you are part of the many, many perfectly valid reasons why CMA are looked down upon.
>>
>>1760983

Not OP, but I do an eclectic southern chinese MA. It allready has some MMA mixed in (as in, some of the influencers of the style trained and fought MMA). I'm looked down on by both CMA purists and MMA guys, but I really don't give a shit.

The draw to kung fu is that good kung fu used well is ridiculously subtle. It's a really intriguing chess game to play once you get the hang of it. The feeling is similar to rolling in BJJ, but has its own distinct flavour I can't describe. You have to get bitten by the bug to really understand what's so satsifying about it.
>>
>>1767872
This is made made up. Why do you feel compelled to tell lies on the internet
>>
>>1770434
Well Choy Li Fut is typically seen as one of the more practical, fight-oriented styles of CMA and somewhat more respected than most others.
>>
>>1768015
this, for disgrace practically all current CMA right now are shit, the only worthwhile CMA are sanda and shuai jiao, and i don't consider sanda a martial art if not a combat sport, and shuai jiao right now is confined in china with a low number of practicioners.

Who here wants to do some Baji; I find Xing Yi snake yields a similar sort of shoulder barging energy, so I play around with that.
>>
>>1764971
Wrong, kungfu is not only use in warfare,in the military manual New Treatise on Military Efficiency 紀效新書(written by the Chinese general Qi Jiguang戚繼光 of the Ming dynasty),clearly tell us the unarmed martial arts is a agility training in military more than a warfare fighting skill.
>>
>>1773707
To follow up on this, even when melee was a major factor unarmed combat training was never that much of a priority because armor and weapons make it a last resort thing. Sure, it was more important than it is today but learning to fight with the multiple weapons you carried around rather took priority. You learned a bit of wrestling to pin someone down and stab them and to not feel like you're completely screwed if you fuck up so bad you wind up unarmed. It's primarily a fitness thing and to instill a willingness to fight even in a worst case scenario.

>shuai jiao

I have practiced with shuai jiao guys in the US and was not impressed. As someone who never won anything bigger than a local tournament in judo, I was able to handle a national champion who was much, much larger than me without issue. I'm sure the story would be different in China where the level of competition is much higher. They were under the delusion that shuai jiao will inevitably supplant judo as the premiere form of jacket wrestling.\

They also rely on the "if you touch the ground in war, you get killed immediately" line to justify why they don't have any ground game. Don't get me wrong; they are far better and more realistic about training than any other style of kung fu, but they still fall to some of the stupid stagnant beliefs rooted in tradition.
