Firstly, it was a work, designed to draw attention to the Miz's style. He's exceptional today for being a wrestler whose style in the ring matches his character. Most guys just go out there and do all the same moves regardless of whether they're a beloved babyface or sinister heel. If you came away from that segment thinking, "Fuck the Miz!" - well done, you got worked.

Secondly, safety and excitement aren't at opposite polls. There have been highly entertaining wrestlers who worked a safe style. Based Bret is the icon for this, but guys like Eaton, Morton, Storm, and to some extent Jarrett and Kane also fit the mold. (Dean Malenko is border-line, as he was usually safe but sometimes did fucking stupid things.)
