I'm a bit curious about something. as a fit 110lb female who's fenced for some years, if it comes down to it and I get attacked by a guy on the street,, would I have a fair chance to protect myself if I had some sort of knife?
Or, because he is a guy, even with little to no training, will he just dodge my knife and kill me?
i can add that I'm fast/smart? enough to beat a lot of the guys in my fencing club. Some of them are pretty strong and good fencers too. But let's say i don't let nerves get me. Let's say I go into this fight very clear headed. Should I even have the illusion of being able to at least gut an attacker if they came for me? If I had a weapon with me?

Fencing with a sword ≠ A knife fight on a street
If someone was unprepared for a Foil/Epee/Sabre and if you have reasonably good control you could probably fend them off with stabbing at the face.
A knife is much shorter and is probably more dangerous to both of you

Ack yeah that was a silly equalization of me to make. Thanks. Ok. t's true i could probably whack them really fucking bad in the face with my foil! i do feel a bit safer. flicks done wrong hurt like a bitch even with all your protective gear on
i was thinking if i wanted to learn knife fighting for real it would probably be somewhat easier since i already had similar training...but you are right i won't blindly pick up a knife. thanks!
