The "Career" mode was one big disappointment in general, as was fighting computer opponents (which is ALL you do in career mode), but the retarded Authority Goals might have been the worst part.

I got one that said "counter your opponent's signature." Like I'm going to do that to buddy up to the Authority instead of doing it out of basic self preservation.

The Authority ruins everything, but it still could have been implemented better. More story-driven goals like "Cost this guy we don't like his match by running in" or some shit.

If they can give career mode a genuine narrative focus like FICTIONAL STORYTELLING (read: pro wrestling) is supposed to have), and balance the CPU's counter bullshit, AND do something to keep Tyler Fucking Breeze from kicking out of a SECOND Jackhammer, they'd have a pretty bitching game.

The "creation" aspect and player vs player were great.

Oh, and overhaul the submission mechanic or some shit. I've never heard anyone say anything about it that wasn't 100% negative. It was awful.

The whole thing is surprisingly realistic. But that's kind of a problem.

From people constantly kicking out of MULTIPLE finishers, to submissions being completely impotent, to feuding with the same guy in the same match for all eternity, to the unbearably repetitive, meaningless backstage interviews, to the arbitrary face/heel turns, I couldn't bring myself to give a shit.

It didn't help that I kind of suck ass at the game. Seriously, I'm almost incapable of reversing things. Maybe too much brain damage from rugby. But the CPU will reverse every signature/finisher I try to hit, don't you worry.

Seriously though, at one point I, a heel, ran in on Finn Balor, a face, and beat the crap out of him, then went backstage and bragged about it to Renee Young. The game helpfully informed me that I had just TURNED FACE. Did someone forget to tell 2K what faces and heels are?
