What is a type of bug that
-appear indoors
-has worm-like larvae
-leave strings or webs
-gather in a group or nest of hundreds up on the ceiling
i don't know but they infested my high school way back when
Probably a brown recluse.
I think they might be young tent caterpillars. They turn into moths and are social, they work together communally to make big "tents" of silk.
They might have sneaked in due to preferring the temperature.

Tent caterpillars only nest in food plants, though.
