My syrian hamster's eyes are crusty and closed. Sometimes they open by themselves when he's been awake for a while but often they don't. I already tried cleaning it with boiled and cooled down water butthat didn't help. Changed bedding to Carefresh and that didn't help. Also went to the vet and got antibiotic eyedrops and they didn't help. He's old though, and google says it happens to older hamsters. But I'm worried, so I was wondering if anyone here can help me before I go to the vet again.
Pic is my hamster with a crusty eye. His name is Snickers!

he's had it for like 3 months now. I think it's just him getting old.

gently wipe his eyes with a lukewarm, damp washcloth when he can't get his eyes open. he's just old.

Saline eye drops has never failed me when it comes to crusty eyes or flushing wounds in pets.
You can make it yourself or you have to buy saline without any other meds they shove in most store brands

He needs fresh, organic fruits and nuts. Leafy greens too. Do not give him food from the pet store.
