Does your cat has access to go outside whenever it wants? My guess is that it disappears for long periods of time during the day so you're not really used to see it around you.

this is absolute bullshit. cat mouths are fucking filthy and their jaws are definitely strong enough to dig those little teeth in as far as they'll go. if it's a nasty bite and you're unlucky, it could get super infected and require hospitalization.
