how? its just fantasy
and he builds a compelling world

I wish there was a repository with all the art, or at least just the landscapes, online
the only good PDF i can find online always chops up the large pictures
I think he tried too hard to make stuff look "alien". Sad to say, but chances are that alien life would end up looking remarkably similar to ours. Just look at arthropods and vertebrates, two completely different lineages of life that ended up developing many analogous structures.

they look alien but many are fairly familiar as well
why should things look similar to earth if the environment is very different?
>>2451870
An alien would most likely look completely different from ours because they would have evolved to a completely different planet along with different predators, plants atmospheres etc...

The world of expedition doesn't look that different from earth. If there's sunlight, why did the creatures have those sensing pockets instead of regular eyes? eyes evolved many times independently on earth. What's the point for many of them for having fused legs, or stabby mouth parts instead of grinding mandibles? they look cool and make you say "wow that's different", but there's not much of a reason for them to exist if you think about it.

Again, think of earth and how many creatures ended up looking similar despite completely different evolutionary history

his explanation was that sonar was just far more efficient and developed during a time when the planet was covered in thick fogs and mist

Such predators like the Arrowtongue were already very well evolved for what purpose they did and didn't need eyes to help. You can see with basically all of the creatures they seem to life perfect lives without eyes. There is 100 billion stars in the Milky way alone so the possibility of a planet filled with aliens without eyes and found a just as good solution is very likely. 100 billion! it is very likely that many of those alien planets would have completely different designs of aliens to evolve.
Anyone know whether the small sketches up the top is concept art or other creatures not used in the book?

>What if a Lily was on another planet?
I hate his art. It's lazy. He just takes things that exist and warps certain features until they're "alien" in his mind.

Show me a better fantasy illustrator

Things would certainly fill similar niches to on earth there for evolving traits similar yet extremely different.
