/an/ I need help. I found a baby squirrel, furred, but eyes closed and in the fetal position. He looks like a newborn that just got fur. He's breathing and doesn't look injured, but it's too dark to leave him out there to get picked up by his mother.
How should I do overnight care? Keep him in the garage? There aren't any animal rescue services in my area and every animal hospital closed at 6, well before I found him.
I wouldn't be asking here, but googling brought me four different contradictory bits of info.
Pic related, a shitty nest I made for him taken from inside.

Will do. Right now she (got the sex wrong initially) is resting on a couple washcloths over a heating pad on low. I might move that whole setup to a box since she may be more mobile than I first thought.
Damn forgot to ask my actual question: how do I keep her hydrated? Every site stresses how important it was, but I didn't see anything on actually giving water to a newborn that's too young to drink themselves. Eye dropper? Wet q-tip?
I can't help you but I hope everything is alright

Eyedropper, syringe(without the needle of course) or at the very least, dab milk on the edge of a cloth and see if it takes it.
Water isn't going to help it much. Get some KMR or any kitten formula, never, ever cow milk. Goat milk isn't as ideal as kitten formula but its better than cow milk or water.
So what's the dealio?
Congrats on your new squirrel friend. I had one when I was a little kid. They're very cute and friendly if you hand raise them.
She's been sleeping soundly in her box with the heating pad. My girlfriend was able to snag some needle-less syringes from her work, and the squirrel gulped down a few ml of improvised rehydration formula.
Going to put her back outside when it gets light out, then take her to a wildlife rescue center this afternoon if her mom hasn't taken her back--I figure at that point, the mom is either gone or has stopped looking.
On a related note, in glad my helicopter parenting instincts were in full swing. I forgot our heating pad automatically turns off after two hours. I worry about what would happen if my paranoid ass wasn't checking the squirrel every 45 minutes.
She's at the wildlife rescue center. Thanks /an/!
