Mosquitoes are important. Mostly because easy fresh water is good and how lake water thermal capacity accumulates huge amounts of sun energy as weeds, green micro algae, mosquito larvae and more. Fresh water fish fry can't survive without tasty mosquitoes larvae and then those and all the other creatures food chains after them keep elevating energy further, creating food for the whole lake native and guest predators, and maintaining the place from turning into a bog.

Even if you get bee populations up we would still need mosquitoes. There are thousands of plant species that have evolved specifically for mosquitoes, bees literally are not shaped right to properly pollinate the flowers. Especially considering the fact that honey bees aren't native to the American continents. As well as many other continents. The only plants they can pollinate are plants that are imported by humans. Such as apple trees. For pollination within the native ecosystems, you have either big ass fat bumblebees, or you have mosquitoes.

Mosquitos are a necessary evil. Lets work on elmininating an actually useless pest, like BedBugs or Fleas.

Yeah, bugs work like machines. Once they are built all they need is sugar to keep them going, but to build more (eggs, the larval diet) you need protein. Picture protein as the metal, and sugars as the fuel. The male mosquitos job is only to find a mate, so it only requires fuel to get there.

Fun fact: Only females suck blood and they only do it when they are preggo. I say we go with mass mosquito abortions.

Specific mosquito species can be made extinct using the same sterile insect technique (SIT) that has existed for over 50 years. It has been
effectively used to eliminate species before for disease prevention in humans and animals, most notably, with the screwworm and the melon fly. The technique has some subtle edges but basically reduces to releasing a large population of targeted, sterilized male insects into the wild that out-compete the wild male population for the (single) mating opportunity with their female counterparts. Repeated application of this technique can completely eliminate a wild insect population — sometimes in as little as one year.
