i also see lots of these tented moths with off-white wings with pink patterns on them. pretty cool, but i don't think i have a picture

Did you know that in southern california right now, there are two supercolonies of Argentine ants fighting a war on a scale that puts human conflict to shame? One massive colony spreading hundreds of miles, is fighting an invading colony branching up through mexico. You can see battle lines of dead ants if you wander through San Diego neighborhoods, where the two met and fought. Shit's amazing.
Bottom tier my ass.
>>2440709
Once they start using weapons lemme know.
>>2440709
Aren't ant super colonies like that created when an invasive species is brought over in low enough numbers that the inbreeding causes them all to recognize each other as siblings even if they are from two separate queens in two separate hives?

>lol so quirky and hilarious i watch bill wurtz btw xddddd
also fuck you ants are the bomb loser
>>2440741
In some cases, yeah. But the Argentine ant is a special case - if you took two sugar ant colonies in the same container, they'd fight to the death, because even though they're the same species, they're different colonies.
Argentine ants will willingly combine colonies. That, coupled with their being an invasive species, is the cause for their rapid, almost unstoppable expansion.

They already take slaves, farm, build homes, raise cattle and dehydrate food. Weapons probably aren't far off.

no way ant a shit
Can anyone identify this?
Unironically ants. They're so interesting and there are so many of them.

Wew lad

This. Weaver ants in particular are crazy - they use their young as stapleguns to build their giant, basketball-sized homes.

I've always liked pillbugs - and it's so easy and fun to get them out of the way with little harm when they swarm the front porch after a rain.

Hymenoptera. Colonial insects are amazing. They build cool stuff, and honeybees in particular are such sweeties. I miss my beekeeping days.
Also cicadas are neato too. I loved finding their molted shells as a bab.
Mantises are cool.
>>2443201
This baby mantis got stuck inside so I'm letting it protect my kitchen herbs from pests. I'm worried about it getting enough food though. It's been a month and it's still alive and molting every once in a while, but what can I feed it once it gets too big to eat gnats and ants?

Just dig around in your garden for rollie pollies, aka pill bugs. Or worms, or anything like that.
