Anyone else here interested in microbiology?
General microbiology thread. Bacteria, archaea, fungi, helminths, etc. all welcome.
Pic related. Geobacter is the shit
>feminization by bacteria
Are Wolbachia the most progressive bacteria?

It's a pretty cool genus. My favorite professor is a fruit fly geneticist and I'm a microbiology major. She talks about it all the time in her entomology class.
Keeping it alive with the sexiest archaeon: The Haloquadratum genus

You're in the club and this guy shows your girl how he can survive through extreme radiation, cold, dehydration, vacuum, and acid better than any other organism on the planet. What do you do?

I had a lab course with air sampling. We further cultivated a pink colony and it turned out to be (according to DNA sequencing) to be some deinococcus variant that only were known to exist in quarries in china, or something similar. God knows how it ended up in sweden.

>God knows how it ended up in sweden.
Maybe it has something to do with the millions of somali quarry workers you've imported.

great post friendo

Did you expect professional biologists?
>>2432820
>our ancestors are microorganisms

>thinking someone smart enough to be a biologist would be on this website

zxx

I'm a molecular biologist, but it's a pleb field full of retards like me who weren't smart enough for engineering.

You know, I was starting to wonder how and when China was going to destroy the world. Apparently it's biological warfare and right now.
TRIGGERED

But it at least sounds pretty sexy.

Are you me?

All life on Earth is related in the end.
I mean you can pinpoint with varying degrees of accuracy the point we split from any other organism on the planet.
It's so weird though, I stand here knowing they exist, but do they acknowledge me, their long lost cousin?
>>2436529
They probably know to some degree. Most animals lack a proper tribe mentality.

I remember when I was a kid and the only one who didn't believe in god in my class (I come from a very catholic country.) So my teacher asked me where did I think we came from if God didn't create us. I said something like "microbes" and she looked at me like I was fucking stupid.

Volvox picture I took using fluorescence microscopy. This is too cool of a thread to let die. Let's see more microorganism pictures

Some poor fucks blood with Trypanosoma in it.
Fuck yeah, microbes rock. I'm working with malaria lately though.
>>2434502
I mean, I practice it as a profession. There's literally fives of us on here.

Nice. What did you use?
