I soaked down a red wasp nest for like 8 seconds with it. It was all foamy and stock and I was like "fuck yeah, that shit is gonna soak in good". Come back an hour later, they're back building on the nest

This. Insects breathe through pores on their surface called tracheae. They're lined with a special fluid that keeps down the surface tension called a surfactant, so they don't drown. By using dish soap, you essentially erode away the surfactant lining and flood them with water, essentially suffocating them.
