Hey /an/imal guys, first time on this board. Figure you can help. There is a stray cat in my neighborhood, I've seen him around for a bit now and first noticed him one early morning when walking to my car for work.
I wanna try to befriend this stray cat so he can at least hang out around where I am and be friends, and possibly avoid the dogs in the neighborhood. (My neighborhood is literally filled with people that have nothing but pitbulls for some reason, and they're always hyper aggressive whenever I seem them out and around. God knows why.)
I'm not really good with strays outright, so what are some ideas you guys have to get this cat to come around more and trust me? My original plan is to leave some catfood on or around my truck when it's night time so that he can have somewhere to eat. I'm worried that the bugs will get to it first though, this entire place is full of them.
Any advice would be great! Pic unrelated.
pet it and make a track from cat food into your home

It doesn't like me enough to let me get close to it.

Rape it to show dominance.
Stray cats are pretty tough.

Yeah, now I'm feeding them to. Kind of feel obliged. Funny thing, I didn't even notice until somebody told me. They are pretty adult already from the looks of it and come out of the basement (it's a commieblock kinda building) when I feed them, or when the weather is nice.
The cat really was asking people to feed her back in November, I didn't see adult strays act like that yet. Guess I never saw a desperate one. She would follow people coming back from work and mewl loudly. Didn't even consider me, but I saw her doing it to a couple of people and decided to feed her.
I'd consider taking the kittens but I have a small flat, and I have a cat already.
