My cousin's dog has recently developed these lesions along his back. It started as a small one near the top of his neck that looked very muck like he accidentally got caught on a barbed wire fence. Not unusual out here surrounded by horse property.
Then it started to spread. We weren't sure what it was. The vet recommended he use some vinegar to kill any infections, so he did. For a while it seemed to be receding, but then it got much worse.

We have a vet appointment tomorrow morning, but in the meantime I was wondering if anyone recognized what this is. To me it looks like some kind of chemical burn, but I can't imagine what he may have gotten into to cause it. All of our chemicals are locked in a shop.

Poor thing. If I knew I would definitely help out, I hope he gets better OP.

I am not a very smart guy so don't take this with any grains of salt but could it be mange?
>>
>>2419089
I'm not sure. What I read about mange says he should be itching himself nonstop, but he doesn't even act like anything is wrong.

Those are lesions, Op. Your dog seems to have severe lesions. He definitely needs to go to the vet. ASAP.

We're heading there in the morning. Is there anything we can do to help tonight?
>>
>>2419123
definitely wrapping and protecting the lesions from infection. dabbing saltwater and/or vinegar on the lesions to calm blood vessels and lower chance of infection. from the pictures the openings look to be fresh so i would recommend taking as much anti-infection measures tonight. looks very painful and uncomfrtable for the dog, give us an update after the vet!

The vet thinks it's a deep tissue infection. They're going to sedate him and shave his back down so they can clean the skin and try to prevent it from spreading, and then we're going to be giving him antibiotics.

I don't know how likely this is but the dog may have a thyroid problem. My dog has an issue with his thyroids that caused him to develop scabs on his back and lose hair.

They shaved his back and gave us some Cephalexin pills and Silver Sulfadiazine cream to apply to his wounds.

My cousin informed me that he tried to make the appointment a week prior to when they could see us. Shame his condition escalated so much due to a busy vet.

Get well doggo

You may want to get into contact with a few vets considering his condition. You don't have to set up an appointment, just call them and let them know your situation, that if your vet is busy you'd like to fall back on them for emergencies. They can transfer info from your current vet to their database so if you need to go there in a pinch you'll be all set.

Hopefully it isn't cancer, that's what my dog got but the lesions didn't look the same as those.

Poor doggo hope he gets well soon.
