I made a huge mistake getting my bf into reptiles.
He's kind of one of those gross people that cares WAY too much about animals. dotes on animals and puts clothes on them and his bearded dragon died and I really believe that he physically bothered it to death. He's talking about getting a different lizard and I already feel so bad for it. I am drunk and his lizard died like 5 hours ago so I will be sensitive and bring it up in a week from now but idk what to say. Like...you're a "mammals only" kind of person. Because you smother your animals with gross physical love 24/7

Talk him into getting a dog and let him know the constant handling and attention he gave the lizard probably stressed it out.
But don't be mean
Let him know that dogs are fairly dependent and will love him and loves to be handled
Take him to a shelter to just look around for a little bit and see if he's into it

I don't think cats/dogs are allowed in his living situation but I should convince him to get a rat. They would enjoy the smothering lol

Rats would be a good choice or a couple ferrets even but the rats will probably smell less.

They only make smells when they piss on flat ground or piss/shit in the water mug. Mostly smell like little slightly moist dogs.
They're so easy to bathe it's no concern, but don't use anything besides warm water and scritches. Seriously. And make sure your cage comes apart and isn't one of them 40lb welded nightmares that you have to dig your whole arm into to reach the middle. That was my last mistake.
