Aqua-Noob here! Got my first 63Ltr Tank and im torn - im only here for another 3 weeks til im gone for holidays like.. til mid august..
Would it be smart to start the filter, let the aquarium set its values right and keep the thing going til mid august when i return? is that just a waste of energy? i mean, i can't put fish in there, til its all set and done so i'd put them in right before i leave for weeks, that's a stupid idea as well..
help me on this! just let the tank rest and prepare it later when im back or put in the filter and let the thing roll?

Leave it until you come back. Honestly probably not a lot would go wrong but not worth the risk.
Just leave it be bud and it'll give you more time to relax and decide what you actually wanna do with it. Also more time reading on various species of fish in your downtime!

yup, will definitely follow that advice, thanks! im at my girlfriends place over my vacation and then we'll look around for stuff to put in the tank and things like that, guess it's more chill to do it without the thought of having no control over a new, unknown tank for a couple weeks..

Yes. Put some food in there while you're at it. Will give the tank a chance to cycle while you're away. That way you can ease into stocking it in August instead of having to wait until September for it to cycle properly.

this is the correct answer.
you need to put enough food in to produce ammonia the entire time you're away though. In saltwater we call this a "shrimp in a sock." you need to toss in something dead that will rot and make ammonia for weeks. A cocktail shrimp should do the trick.
