Hopefully it works, I used to have a tiny bun that could crawl inside of one of those. Maybe you could also try to put some straw with the pellets, if they like peeing on that kind of material. My bun has both straw and hay in his cage cause he likes pissing on the stuff as well. It seems to work and he knows which one is the food.

Make it so she can't get on the mattress, a makeshift fence or just keeping an eye on her should be enough. She probably smells you on it, figures that's your 'cage' and acts accordingly.

Lesbuns duo anon here. Motherfuckung bananas. They can smell them from the other room and go insane when you bring a small bowl of fresh banana slices. Aside from that, dandelion roots and the Little One small herbal pads.
>>
>>2399204
That's quite the opposite! I wonder if their preference for veggies or fruits is loosely tied to their personalities.

My past buns also loved sweet things and the timid male bun would even bash open the cage door whenever I came by with an apple, which he wouldn't even do if he desperately wanted to go outside.
Now I got this autistic turtle bun gobbling down bok choy and coriander, but hating apples or bananas. Also, instead of going nuts whenever the thing shows up in his view, he sits next to his little food bowl, puts his paws in and stares at me like the entitled bastard he is.

I haven't had a severely autistic/bitter food loving bun before, so I'm pretty curious.
>>
>>2399221
Maybe you're right. That's interesting. They both love sweet fruits but when it comes to greens/veggies they have absolutely different preferences. White bun, who is a turbo autismo, isn't very enthusiastic about greens, aside from dill, for some reason. Toffee, the second, older bun, is the opposite in terms of personality -- curious explorer. adventurer and occasional insufferable but still extremely loveable bitch and bully -- and she loves all kinds of greens/veggies.
>>
I started putting down a layer of newspaper in their hay box, then a thin layer of litter, then hay on top of that and when they pee on it the litter absorbs it all and they eat pretty much all the hay on top. The newspaper makes it very easy to dump it all out into the trash.
>>
What do you guys feed your buns as far greens/treats? Ive been doing kale and parsely with banana and celery for treats. I read its good to change it up weekly

>>2399278
I mainly give him lettuce and stuff he likes, but I'll change it up with anything I got laying around, after checking if it's safe of course.
I think the main reason to change it up is because some greens contain a lot of this and others a lot of that, so you gotta balance it out.
>>
>>2399277
That's pretty cool. You're the anon that got two buns recently?

Putting newspaper under litter sounds like a good idea. I usually leave some of the feces/wet pellets in tray when I clean up, although I don't know if I really should do that. Just don't want buns to get confused by the lack of familiar scent.
>>
>>2396393
>they're stupid like that

You're stupid, anon. They shit where they eat because that's how their digestive system works. Basically they can defecate pretty much only when there's something pushing shit outside. It's an endless poop factory.
>>
Bun question:
I have two females (unspayed, soon to be spayed) which are partially bonded besides the fact that one 50% of the time tries to hump the other. I know it is hell bonding two females, but has anyone experience in using a third male bunny in bonding two females? Would that work?
>>
>>2399278
>>2399294
I use parsley, kale, and spinach for greens, alternating every week or two. Treat wise either my girlfriend makes them treats from hay+kale+banana or they get banana and these little hard treats they seem to like.
>>
>>2399311
If you to get your alpha fem another bun to hump. :^)

Seriously, though, I don't know.Maybe you should wait on bonding until they're spayed?
>>
>>2399299
Yep one week today.
I havent had trouble with litter sticking to the litter box. The wet hay would cling to the hay box tho which is annoying since i dont have an outside hose or a garbage disposal
>>
>>2399321

Use shower with a fine drain mesh so the hay doesn't get in the drain.

Force feeders are psychopaths and you should abandon this person. No better than roadkill deer meat chili guys that tell you it was beef (there are many millions of these people, they are to be avoided.)

>>2400082
Yogurt covered raisins are good for small mammals and rodents. They also go apeshit for Tums, a few of the mineral hunters, regular calcium carbonate is a treat to them and helps as a calcium supplement. I fed the rat them, make sure bunnies can eat them before offering, they can react with acids and cause foam to overflow and animal stomachs, but vegetarian diets for the most part won't react to them.

I made the mistake of buying a bunny without checking to see if my city has support for it. It doesn't. I wanted one since a long time, and i bought one from a breeder here who lets the rabbits in terrible condition. I don't know what to do. Nowhere here spay and neuters rabbits, showers, or even cares for them. I live in a medium-small city in bumfuck nowhere. What do?
>>
>>2399204
Same here with bananas
>>
>>2402672
Is there any shelter nearby? Most of the times they have their affiliated vets so if they got buns in there they should know a place you can neuter yours. Then again, if it's a male bun I think most vets will know how to neuter him.
>>
>>2402672
You'll probably have to take him to another town to spay. As for showering, why would you want that? You shouldn't wash your buns, if I got it right. Also, if you still have a chance, I'd suggest you get another bunny from the same litter that was growing up with yours. Bunnies need a company and bonding two from different litters is a pain in the ass.

Oh, and before you take your bun to vet for neutering, ABSOLUTELY make sure they use gas for narcosis.
>>
>>2402686
I bought him. Not sure if he's a male or female, he's very small. He was in a small wired bard cage with other 7 rabbits because people here don't give a shit to animals that aren't dogs or cats. I didn't even choose him because i wanted to make a life of a random rabbit better.

Is another rabbit absolutely necessery? I don' have much more money. There are no shelters for animals here. Dogs and cats end up on streets, rest of the animals just die. Welcome to the third world world.
>>
>>2402688
Well, not absolutely necessary, but highly recommended. You can always get a second bun later, just make sureto read as much as you can about bonding.

Really sad to hear about the condition they've been growing up in. Only further proves that humans are fucking cancer.

Take a good care of your bun and post some pics when you have time, anon.
>>
>>2402688
You could keep him alone if he'll often be in the same room as you so he isn't completely alone. IF you do keep him alone, spaying/neutering isn't very neccesary either. It could fix some behavioral issues but in general they learn where to shit and piss after getting used to the place and territorial behaviour will generally only happen whenever you have had visitors over or when something else smells new or different.
>>
>>2402715
Don't fembuns have higher risk of cancer if they're not spayed?

>>2402688
Either way if you said your bun is really small, it's too early to spay/neuter. The recommended age is around 4-6 months.
>>
>>2397108
It's because that is recyclable, not trash. Turtle bun wants to dispose of the bottle properly because he cares about Earth.
>>
>>2402723
Yeah that's true, for females spaying will most definitely give them 4-5 yrs extra to live.

>>2402688
>>2402715
If they're a bit older it's easier to see the balls on the guys as well, so you could decide whether you want to spay them or not then. Keep in mind that they can retract the entire ballsack whenever, so picking them up to look isn't always the ideal method for checking.
If you watch his butt while he's hopping around you'll be sure to see them dangling.

I leave the doors of the apartment open. We interact a lot, and he even started resting next to my feet. He's the cutest little thing. Stopped bitting me, too, only licks. He can stop disgracing my home with urine and feces without being neutered/spayed? There also seems to be so many advantages to him neutered, too.

here's a photo of him. Slightly bigger than my fist, smaller than my palm open (then again, i'm 1.85 cm). His name is Dettlaff. Don't know if he's a male or female, so i just put this one while he/she doesn't grow.

How do you guys store hay? The only place that sells hay here sells it in big packaes, the size of a chair. Should i buy it?
>>
>>2402737
If you get him a litter box or a cage, you could put the poops and paper towels you wipe the piss with in that place, so he knows where it goes. Keep the food there as well, that often seems to help.

I keep hay inside the small storage room of the house. I imagine it won't go bad as long as you keep it in a dry place. Big packages will be fine, you'll be running out pretty fast.
>>
>>2402741
Thank you. I'm more optimistic. How fast does he learn to use the litter box? Also, is it normal for him to retract his head like a turtle and look like one big furball when being caressed, or is it scared? It looks like those fluffy birds.
>>
>>2402737
what a qt!

As the other anon says, don't worry about hay going bad, because buns are eating hay almost literally non-stop. Just store it somewhere dry and out of bunny's reach, because if he finds it and decides to help himself to it your room is going to turn into a huge mess.

>>2402744
When you pet a bun they usually do this. He might be a bit nervous for now, but if you keep petting him he will feel more relaxed and lay his head on the floor and start making some noise with his teeth. That means he's enjoying it.

Bunnies love when you touch their cheeks, nose and forehead, area between eyes and ears and (mine at least) shoulders.
>>
>>2402737
Oh, and also be ready to read a lot of stuff on how to take care of buns, what you can/can't feed them and be patient no matter what. Bunnies are pets with personalities and some can be tough to look after. Ours, for example, are really rebellous and if we don't clean everyday they turn their room into a postapocalyptic landscape.

If you have a quick question, either ask here or google, google, google. Get your info from many sources, 'cause some of them can be wrong.

Congrats on getting a bun, anon. Sincerely happy for you. If you're a good owner and your bun doesn't have any health issues, he or she is your dedication for the next 10 years or so.
>>
>>2402744
In my opinion they learn pretty fast, I can't remember how long it took all of my buns, but I don't think it took weeks. It may take a bit of time because he's still a small bun, but it's in their nature to have a designated toilet spot, so give him one and he should start using that pretty quickly.

Sometimes i feel like killing my rabbit (that i sometimes think i love a lot) just because i want to be completely alone. I live alone with him. Never hit or mistreated him, in fact i spoil him a lot.

Ok so apparently advantage II is bun-friendly and not stupidly expensive, but a lot of people say to get a recommended dosage from a rabbit savvy vet. There are no rabbit savvy vets around here(she was spayed before we got her), she was also born & raised in a lab and was used for blood test because she has low anti-bodies which is apparently rare in buns, so I've got to be extra careful

When I had a rabbit (years ago now) I read that you put a little hay in the front of their litter box because they do enjoy grazing while they do their business. So I would find a different way to offer hay to them instead of just giving them a box (like a hanging feeder) and put some in a corner of their litter box.

As far as I know, most buns in this thread are free-roaming and do just fine with a litter box. Of course you have to protect cables and any other stuff that sticks out because they might nibble on them, be it on purpose or by accident. My bun once accidentally bit through a cable when he tried to move it out of his way.

The litter shouldn't be too much of a problem once she gets older and more used to the house. I'm guessing most of the droppings are actually territorial and she's marking off the apartment as hers by forcing out as much litter as possible. Once her hormones calm down a bit, she shouldn't feel the need to mark her territory that much unless strangers come over or something similar happens.

I've only had experience with unneutered males regarding the territorial poops but I'm guessing it should be the same for females as well. When my bun still had his balls he would poop everywhere in the beginning and after a bit he would only poop as much when guests were over and stayed too long for his liking. He's a pretty bossy elitist bun so yours should be less or equal to him.
>>
>>2413593
Thank you. What does it mean when she tries to push something up with her nose? Like she presses her nose up in my hand, like she's telling me to lift it. I've heard of chinning but she does the very opposite, pressing my hand/fingers/etc upwards.

yoo these are wild rats i wouldn't touch them they're probably crawling with parasites

you probably know this as well but your breath can also make them really ill and give them respiratory problems their whole lives

my rat has begun to groom me but she's a little mean and does it with the incisors. Is it uncommon? her companion sometimes get sick of her shit too

it doesnt hurt it just feels weird, she can easily chop my fingernail off

That sounds like barbering. A little different than grooming, it means she's being a bossy cunt.

that cage is too small and the pine chips release a toxic gas when in contact with urine. Also they are extremely uncomfortable, cause splinters, and
>>

And try dragging your nuts in wood chips all day.

Seriously, fuck aspen enthusiasts and those who can't sacrifice a single shirt or paper towel for bedding.
>>
>>2416800
>>2416811

He doesn't live in the cage, he only uses it as a litter box and his food is in there.

I know it doesn't justify the woodchips, but I'm just a broke uni student and outside of weekends and holidays I'm seldom at home with the bun. I've tried changing the bedding but the next time I came home it was just woodchips again. My mum is one of those spiritual crazies that ignore any form of scientific evidence and just believes her judgement is best and that 'uni doesn't teach me how to take care of others'(?) unlike her experience with pets does.

Basically she's just really stubborn and if I could afford to live in a bigger apartment where they would allow buns I would take him in immediately and finally try to find him a friend too. Can't help to blogpost as I'm pissed off about it as well.
>>
>>2416734
I haven't thought about that, thanks anon, she does not chop fur off her sister through she just takes the tip of her incisors and starts scraping the skin lightly, I had never realized how sharp those fuckers are, I will keep an eye on it

imo i feel like it really depends on what you're looking for in a hamster. if you want one that you can easily bond with and cuddle then you should get a syrian, but if you want a ham more for show then i would get a dwarf.

I dunno man, most mammalian pets stink at least to some extent, and most small mammals shit everywhere. That said, ferrets don't shit everywhere, they shit in corners, and are litter-trainable.

Why does my rabbit pee on her blanket? Is it possible for a litter box to be too small? Ive tried litter training but she still shits and pisses everywhere. I want to let her out more but not until she learns where the bathroom is
>>
>>2418559
Is she spayed? She might be marking territory instead of normal pissing/shitting
>>
>>2418392
Yeah lmao if u literally put a litter box in every corner
>>
>>2418729
>every small mammal

Ferrets stink like fucking crazy. Their buck goo is insane. Unmanageable. I have never seen someone with their ferret cage inside.
Male ferrets and male mice are two of the worst things you will ever put in your house.
>>
>>2418729
Some are better than others at it, and will need more litter boxes, but many are good at going to the "right" corner with the litter box if they're trained well.

That said, I still don't think shitting specifically in corners really counts as "shitting everywhere" in the realm of small mammal pets. Most small mammals just shit wherever they happen to be.

>>2418736
>never seen someone with their ferret cage inside
Seriously? The only people I've seen who keep their ferret outdoors neglect the fuck out of them.
>>
Wish me luck /an/, I'm taking my guinea pig into the vet today. Recently she hasn't been acting like herself but yesterday night she stopped eating/pooping entirely. Her belly isn't inflated so I'm hoping it isn't bloat.
>>
I have a hedgehog. I can't afford a hedgehog. He was a rescue that was going to be put down or I wouldn't have gotten one. Woke up and his face was swollen as fuck on one side. I can't afford to go see a vet and I definitely can't afford whatever treatment they'd offer. I also can't afford to have them put him down which will almost certainly be necessary. He's 6 years old and it's almost definitely cancer, it looks extremely painful.

So I'm asking. If some polysporin and basic treatment doesn't work out. Should I put him down myself? If so, what is the least cruel way of doing so? Sounds cold but it looks really painful and he's very old for a hedgehog. I was thinking maybe give him some strong sleeping pills then do it while he's out.

They're very cute! How are rats as pets? I'm interested in getting some in the future and I've heard mostly good things.
>>
>>2419648
Not that anon, but rats are great. Affectionate, curious, social, intelligent, quiet, cleanly pets. They're extremely social, so be sure to get at least two!
>>
One of the thirteen pups of my pet rat's litter has died, but she does not realize this and keeps returning it to the pile. What do?
>>
>>2419654
Distract with food/treats and take it from her. She'll eat it otherwise.
>>
>>2419657
How long should I give her to do this? I don't want the sanitary risks of a dead body to endanger the rest of the litter.
>>
this is my boy, i've had him for almost 2 years now
he's a mini rex but he's quite large and long
but uh, he hates any sort of fresh fruit/vegetable and I really don't know what to do about that. I give him lots of hay and feed him a bit of pellets but he really, really likes sun dried fruit more than anything else (especially banana chips and papaya) but I really want to introduce him to fresh produce
i've tried before and he's just really indifferent towards it, does anyone else have this problem?

Maybe try herbs like parsley or safe weeds like dandelions. Seems like he has a peculiar taste and you just have to find out what he likes. My bun loves bokchoy, endive and coriander, for example (and eats the dandelion leaves from between the tiles)
>>
>>2419390
How's the piggie doing, anon?
>>
>>2419856
what a cute lop!
I've tried dandelions and he didn't even really acknowledge them. I've tried fresh banana, papaya, carrots, raspberries, celery, and apples. I remember (i'm a fucking dweeb and i treat my pets on their birthdays) I made him a really nice fruit dish with papaya, apples and raspberries and he literally did not care
>>
>>2419949
Ah yeah, my bun doesn't like fruits either, except for sour apples and watermelon (especially the rind). I can't think of any veggies or fruits that resemble the taste of dried fruits off the top of my head, but I hope you find something he likes. Have you tried regular lettuce yet?

I haven't tried lettuce yet. I think you need to feed them a specific kind? Romaine should be okay, right? I could try the rind of watermelon. I like the papaya because when he's shedding it keeps his stomach clean and i think helps break down the fur.
it's really odd though, he's a perfect boy in every other way but he's picky as hell.

Do you have access to a firearm and a place to shoot it that wont cause alarm? If not the best way is to get a big flat rock and a smaller yet still big and heavy rock and you see where im going with this. But definitely sedate him first if you can. Its very instant this is what i do when my asshole cat brings me a maimed animal.

Yeah mine likes romaine and it doesn't give him any problems. The cabbage-y lettuces have a risk of giving gas (I'd have to look up the English names but I'm sure you know which ones I mean).
And well, I like picky buns that have their own tastes. The disgusted faces they make whenever they get something they don't like are hilarious to me.

>>2420052
It might just be an act of dominance. Female buns are known to hump their male buds as well whenever they feel they're wearing the pants in their house.
