Does this trigger /an/? I knocked down a wasp nest that was almost ready to hatch. As you can see, there are almost hatched babies inside. And now they are food for the ants.

Yes, yes it does.

What do wasps even do that is beneficial to me?

Some of them kill caterpillars, so that's beneficial if you're gardening or farming.

Ok, that's cool. At least they serve some purpose, unlike mosquitoes and ticks.

Why would you want wasps in your garden? They kill some pest insect, I assume?
>>
>>2381791

Animals like opossums eat ticks.
>>
Wasp got into my apartment the other day. Big nasty fucker. Had a duel to the death with the bastard. Took a few hits and crushing him with considerable strength to finally kill him. Then flushed the bastard.

You were an honorable opponent, wasp-san.

>>2381883

Up here in the northeast we are overrun with ticks this year especially so whoever is supposed to be eating them isn't doing their damn job. Opossums eat lots of stuff anyway, it's not like 99% of their diet is ticks.
>>
>>2382475
Why do edgelord on /an/ call them "opossums" when they are possums?

What "most of North America calla them", doesn't magically change the fact the animals actual name is opossum.
>>
>>2383599
>the animals actual name is opossum
no, it's Didelphis virginiana

its common name is opossum or possum.

the funny part is possum in Oz was taken directly from the name used in murrica. We call them possums, that's how the Australian ones got their name.

Doing godswork desu
>>
>>2381870
dude when we got a few wasp nests near the garden, we literally did not have to lift a finger for pest control that year because the wasps cleared out 95% of the caterpillars for us. I was watching them for hours doing patrol and they are the best thing for gardens since fertilizer
>>
>>2383632
Catipilars dont do shit to your garden retard. They do nothing ants dont already do and youll never full clear ants.
>>
>>2383707
Have fun with your dead plants
>>
>>2383707
Wasps also catch flys something ants could never do. What's more is that is you only set on ants is that if they become too successful then they will make giant lice farms on plants to harvest their sugary shit on mass. Biological diversity is great most of the times
>>
Wasps sting for literally no reason so everyone can fuck off

you don't have to like wasps to not enjoy killing them
>>
>>2383787
Incorrect, bees die when they sting, wasps don't have a barbed stinger, so they can hit you as many times as they have venom for. I know this for a fact because I've had one of the fuckers fly up my long sleeve and sting me four/five times in the arm. Also:

No.

>>2383824
They do all sting. You have to have a stinger to be in the Hymenoptera order. Also, even worse, some wasps' stingers also function as ovipositors, so you get to not only be stung, but have eggs injected under your skin to hatch like something out of fucking Alien
>>
Why the hell is it that when you knock a wasp nest down other wasps come and eat their larvae? Ive noticed this several times when Ive had to deal with nests

Bumblebees can sting multiple times without losing their stinger, Honeybees are the ones that lose their sting.

It's not fair.
>>
>>2383836
But that just isn't true...
>>
>>2383824
You do have to admit that the ones that are most common (yellow jackets, hornets, paper wasps, etc) do sting. Even if they keep your garden safe, if their nest is nearby and you're harvesting your plants you're gonna get the shit stung out of you
>>
>>2384681
>If their nest is nearby and you're harvesting your plants you're gonna get the shit stung out of you
Not necessarily. If you don't flail about like a retard and regularly tend to the plants, they should leave you alone. I'm usually within a couple inches of a nest every tomato season.
>>
>>2383896
Bubmlebees don't sting at all where I live. They bite
>>
>>2384681
They're not the most common at all, though. They're the most noticeable, because they're big and bright and you know you should stay the fuck away from them. But they're a really really small minority.

Not to mention a lot of the ones that can sting aren't very aggressive like >>2384696 said. You named paper wasps and they're pretty docile.
>>
>>2384681
I've heard they only get noticably agressive when the new queens are getting from lavae to adult til they fly off
>>
>>2381934
So you're saying that if we kill mosquitoes then birds and bats will have nothing to eat...

the same birds and bats that don't eat mosquitoes, but they make sure to eat things that are detrimental to forest life?

Got it!
>>
>>2384681
Lmao it's like those fuckers know who to sting. I got stung 3 times for literally no reason at all, fuckers chose me over 5 other people at the same table. Every time I ended up with an anaphylactic shock and had to go to the ER.
