So my mother has a tiel and after 5 years of having him she can't stand his screeching and the mess he causes.
Should i just release him in a park or give him to someone else?

It probably wont survive in the wild.

So what's the best action?
Should i sell it to a pet shop or find someone that will take care of it?

Re-home it.

Why is he screeching? My roommate has one that yells like an alarm for 8 hours straight at the crack of dawn and it's a "therapy animal," but it was abused - does she let it out for more hours than it's in the cage? And she can get a seed catcher - it's probably throwing shit everywhere because it's bored.

Dumb bitch does not know how to take care of the bird.
Also, exotic birds are a no go for releases.
I'm not sure if this is a bait thread. But when I was 15 I had one that could probably say at least 10 words and whistle yankee doodle and the andy griffith theme song. according to everyone I met it was the smartest tiel of all time. i gave it away to some lady who was a bird hoarder because I couldn't take the screeching. probably the only time i've done something like that but it was clearly in better hands. she had over 70 of them she said. i really didn't research it enough. but i think i did the right think

Don't ever release any domestic animal into the wild, dipshit.
Either it dies horribly (which is what your cockatiel would do) or it survives and could become a threat to native wildlife.
Put up some posters in the local store, list it on Craiglist/similar, and he'll most likely be gone in a couple of weeks. Ditch him at an animal shelter if you have to, but don't release him.
Keep your window open. If it leaves and never comes back, fuck 'em.

The screeching is probably fixable, but the keeper would need to be willing to work with it
Releasing pet parrots outside their natural habitat is a death sentence, not a way to "give it a better life"
Post on Craigslist, talk to petstores, hell talk to any avian vets about finding a new home for it
