Why are guinea pigs so docile? Hamsters are ugly angry shitters and rats are cool but can be aggressive. Guinea pigs thought are all very very docile and will never think of biting you, also always ready to play. Why are they the best rodents?

Because technically rabbits aren't rodents.

Don't know what you mean by "docile". These bitches spazz out and bite me whenever I pick them up.

Guinea pigs were domesticated and raised for meat by Peruvians for thousands of years, so it stands to reason that the most docile ones would be allowed to reproduce.

God, I really miss owning guinea pigs. I used to have one as a kid, and even if I didn't treat it correctly (because what 5 year old think the manager at a petstore is wrong), it never bit me or flip out. It did run away a lot though. How hard is actual care for them anyway?

They're a little more on the high maintenance side for small animals

They should be kept in pairs at least, with a good size cage or pen which probably wont be sold at a pet store. Hay you can get in bulk very cheaply, but they need fresh greens and vegetables and should get some kind of fortified pellet in small amounts just to make sure they get enough vitamin C. They can be very flighty if not handled properly when they were little. I always point people to Guinea Lynxx if they are intersted in getting pigs. excellent resourve.

Pic is one of my pigs before I trimmed her nails.
