They are one of the most common insects on flowers at this time of year and during the entire early summer.

I'm really surprised how you could have missed them.

At first, I thought it was some kind of hummingbird bee until I got a closer look at the pictures.

I've seen those in the east USA. I've only seen like 5 my whole life and I've been taking pics of insects for 30+ years.
