I hope the doctor doesn't use a syringe for a rat, at least not until they are under anesthesia. Their veins are too small so small animals get a 'heart stick' instead sometimes and it's incredibly painful.

She's gone. The vet put her unconscious with isoflorane (sp) and then did the injection. It was peaceful and she's not suffering anymore.

I can't believe my buddy for the past four years is gone from this world. Here's another photo. I want to hold her and feel her heartbeat but I can't.

Have you thought about adopting a rat from a testing agency? I did after mine passed and he was the sweetest baby. He had diabetes, but was a very good ratters.

I'm sorry for your loss OP, Albinos are beautiful and docile. Glad you went the painless direction, I'm sure she would have appreciated it if she could understand what was going on.

The diabetic rat had to have a special diet - no insulin, it wasn't that bad/too far, but there was a specialized diet, yes.

I'm so sorry, OP. Rose looks like she was a really sweet and special rattie. A loss like that hits really hard. It's ok if you're not ok.

But just remember, 4 years is a ripe old age for a rat, so at least she had a good, full life with you! And I'm sure her last day with you helped her feel comfy and loved.
