How long could a 5 mo. old Blue Heeler puppy survive in the frigid northeastern outdoors?
My polack neighbor let his dog's leash slip saturday night, and it ran off into the woods behind our collective houses. How much of a chance is there of that dog being alive still? The forest has a good bit of creeks and shallow ditches. Area is central new jersey.
Unless he found a way into some warm shelter or someone picked him up, like no chance. Hope he finds him before the blizzard

How cold are we talking about? Dogs have great survival instincts. It'll crawl somewhere that's tight to survive the cold.
A puppy bred to live in hot climates? Not long. RIP doggo
South jersey here. I had a 16 year old cat run out on me one winter right before a snow storm. He had never run out before and was sick, so we just assumed it was his time, since apparently cats do that.
The guy came back a week later a thin as fuck and had a few bumps on him. He passed the next day.
If you ask me the dog has a chance OP. People are much morw likely to help a dog than a cat imo

Clearly you've never been in a desert at night.
Anyhow, doggo is 5 months old, which give or take is adolescence in dog years. So he ain't really a puppy anymore, but he sure as shit ain't a full sized dog.
That said, given the winter blast we had two days ago, he's fucked unless he sheltered himself in some cover or near vent. (NE Jersian here)
