I want a Ragdoll cat, but I'm not sure if I should buy pedigree. I've owned one cat and three dogs in my life. All were adopted/rescued. I think that taking in animals from shelters should always be my first choice. At the same time, I really like the way Ragdolls look. Everyone of them I've met has been gentle and has had a good demeanor. Which matters now that my family members and friends have started to have kids. They seem like great cats. I'm just not sure what to do about it.

Pedigree matters with very few cats and ragdolls are not one of them
And I say that as someone who actually really likes and knows cats

Are you saying I should or shouldn't get a pedigree. I don't necessarily mean one with showpapers. Just as in, I know what breed the cat is. Rather that whatever I find in a shelter.

Dont get one is what I'm saying because it wont matter unless you are getting something like a Maine Coon, or any other specialty breed.
Ragdolls arnt a specialty breed

Cats are not like dogs. No papers, no breed.

I've known only about a dozen people who bought pure bred (with and without pedigree) cats. They nearly all paid thousands of dollars in vets over genetic issues, and a little less than half died before 10 years. One dumb friend got a tonkinese kitten, it died at 2 from genetic heart disease, and she went to the same breeder to get another cat. Guess what it was just diagnosed with a few weeks ago?

I would recommend only getting a purebred cat if you are absolutely in love with the breed and want to breed them to be healthier, and have the connections and cash to do so. Otherwise you're waving your dick for a special snowflake cat that you could have gotten for free but instead decided to drop a few hundred for a cat that will live half as long.

That's the only way I would keep a cat. There's dogs, fox, coyote, mountian lion, and bear. All near where I live. Since I am in a more suburban area, but pushed up against the base of the mountains.

I had three ragdolls with pedigrees that all acted like assholes. You should always adopt from a shelter where you can see what the cat's personality is like.

I rescued a blue point rag doll from a crack house. I've had cats all my life so I though I could bend his wildness easily as I've done lots of times before with other cats.

He ended up being a major douche and completely unlikeable. He kept attacking the kids so we had to sell it 6 months on.
I never had this problem with outdoor or indoor/outdoor cats. He wouldn't like affection and managing his hair was pure hell. They shed like crazy and grow very big.

Maybe it was because it was from a fucking crack house?

>I never had this problem with outdoor cats
Well obviously when you neglect a cat by leaving it outside you won't be interacting with it as much leading to fewer examples of bad experiences.

He was a kitten when I rescued him, can't believe he was already damaged.

My outdoor cats are happy, they can sleep inside if they want but they live in a farm, they can go hunting and explore all the time. They are friends with the dogs and have nice shiny coats. They are far from neglected, we feed them and play with them everyday and they've lasted longer than any other cats I've had before. The indoor cats would get the call of the wild and step outside to be hit by a car. Lost count of how many.

Why does /an/ sperg the fuck out every time pedigrees and breeders are mentioned?

OP. Get your ragdoll. Instead of asking retards on 4chan go on some other websites and see what people have to say about the breed.
You should not base your decision off of a mongolian carpet weaving chatroom
