hey /an/
so ive never actually taken a pet to get neutered before but there's a local place that does it for free on Thursdays. Caveat being that you pay for anesthesia
How much does that shit typically cost?
Depends on the vet. Average costs to a neuter male would be around $80 I'd say. Though I've seen some charge up to $200. Females are usually double that.
The anesthesia makes up a large part of the cost so I assume you'd still be paying around $50. A good vet can neuter a cat in 5 minutes so the quicker the vet works the less you'll be paying.

filthy cat owner
I've read an article by a vet who works in both a normal clinic and a cheaper spay/neuter clinic.
There is less monitoring and specialized equipment in most of the cheaper clinics but spay/neuter operations are so typically uncomplicated that as long as our animal is healthy and young they arnt in any more danger
Just dont bring older, overweight, or special health concerning animals there.

This this this this this. Don't be surprised if your 12 year old cat with a grade 4 heart murmur dies at a low cost clinic

low cost spay neuter clinics near me charge about 20 for a male cat, and 40 for my 80 lb cryptorchid dog. All I can say is that there IS a reason these services are so cheap, like that other anon said. I work in a vet clinic myself and we pretty regularly see botched spays from local low cost clinics and shelters. (sometimes they leave parts of the uterus in, sometimes they fuck up sutures, etc) Not so much with neuters though.
Call them and ask.
