my rabbit's 3rd eyelids have been showing a lot lately
pic related is not her but that's about the same degree as hers. she's a blue eyed white dwarf
i also thought her eyes looked a little buggy but when i picked her up to look at them closely today they looked more normal and when she seemed more comfortable, being petted, her eyelids went back to normal also
>inb4 vet
i'm not against taking her to the vet but she's skittish and susceptible to stress so if it's not something i need to worry about i'd rather leave her alone
Not a rabbit owner but I had a similar issue with my dog. Some days were better than others, and he definitely had swelling and was producing more eye gunk than usual. Vet said that the 3rd eyelid was inflamed (likely due to allergies) and to use artificial tears and gently massage the corners of the eyes to help moisturize and bring down swelling (and make him more comfortable).
It's not a major issue, but it does require some treatment, and in bad cases may require surgery. I'm also not sure how easy it is to use eye drops on a rabbit, or if that's even the issue, so unfortunately the answer is probably vet.
Try saline eye drops. She might have something lodged under it. My old rabbit had something similar and after the eye drops I ended up pulling out a rather large piece of hay.
my rabbit tries to bite me a lot

sorry to hear that anon

I know, it sucks. Kid won it at a carnival. I just want it to come around to getting cuddles.

Does it just bite you or people in general?

people in general. It'll put up with gentle rubbing of its forehead, and likes to eat out of your hands. After a while it kind of oinks and tries to bite you. Not very hard though. The only times it's actually made aggressive contact with me or my wife, it barely registers as pain at all. Like as soon as it's teeth touch me it backs off and doesn't pursue that train of thought.

The fuck?
i'm the op
thanks for the replies. both her eyes have started to bulge out of her head pretty noticeably so i made an appointment for her to be seen on monday

Does the "oinking" sound like this?

op again
vet thought her eyes looked ok so it might be nothing or it might be a thymoma (tumor in the chest)
i didn't get it xrayed because she'd have to be sedated for it and since the tumor has a bad prognosis i wouldn't have it treated anyway (specialist surgery starting at $2000.. she's a lovely sweet rabbit but that's an awful lot of money for a lunatic, old animal that was basically free) so i'm just going to wait and see

I would at least get her scanned so you have a definitive answer.

the vet didn't recommend putting her under for xrays unless i wanted to have it treated
the stress of anesthesia could just worsen her condition
