IF you know anyone, there are a ton of cats there that are put down in two weeks no matter what. It's a really crappy place but they get a ton of cats that really need help. They have a bunch of rescues trying their best to get them out.

A lot of these pictures are awful. This shelter neglects them. Some of the recues show updated and they are just so much better looking.

They make it so hard nowadays to adopt. Some shelters need professional references, vet references, landlord approval, etc. I know when I adopted my cat the lady from the shelter had to a do a "home check" which was super annoying and weird.

I think many shelters will falsify the age and health of their animals as-well. The first cat I adopted I was told was 6 years old, had diet issues, and a respiratory infection. According to my vet she was actually more like 12 years old and after a hundreds of dollars found out she had lymphoma. She only lived 2 months.

I don't trust the SPCA. That's for damn sure.

Agreed, the only reason I have donated to the rescues is to save these cats. A lot of people are outraged but seems nothing is being done. It's just so sad and I can't sit here and do nothing. I just wish I didn't live so far away.

Not defending this specific shelter but what do you expect people to do with thousands of 'adoptable' cats that no one is adopting?
Shelters can't adopt out as fast as they can get more animals. When no kill shelters are full, they often send their unadopted animals out to other shelters that may be a kill shelter and/or redirect new animals coming in to a kill shelter. It's not their fault they can't house thousands upon thousands of animals for possibly the rest of their life. Puppies(purebred or mutts) and kittens get put down too. It's nice that they're putting up pictures of them at all.

Once upon a time I would post animals from the NYC ACC that were going to be put down. I have since stopped because it took up too much time. Supposedly one person actually adopted one of the dogs I posted.

This is the spiral of a failing Animal Shelter. They are over pricing the animals to line their pockets. What's happened is they are not receiving enough funds or donations to continue functioning, so they are forced to squeeze money out of adoptions instead. They probably aren't getting enough donations because of the bad wrap they are receiving in the media. Then it becomes a vicious circle; they get bad media because they need to kill their excess because they have no room because their adoption fees are set too high because they get no donations because they get bad media etc etc. I've seen rescues and small shelters ruined on just a single rumor.

But that's not to say some aren't Jewish, but I'll tell you what the Jews aren't dealing with mutt cats. They deal with 'purebreds' and puppies, that's where the money is at and I've seen my fair share of absolute Fucking scam rescues get into the limelight.

Upon further inspection it looks like every single cat regardless of age is $80. Which really is a very bad marketing plan, especially since I can't imagine that alone covers all the surgeries they do. Even if you made the kittens $100 and the adults $60 that would help so much with adoptions. When consumers can see older cats are cheaper than younger ones it makes them more likely to buy older cats even if they are higher priced, and at the end of the day they'd still be making the same amount of money.

Another idea is if the CEO/manager is using sympathy to get more attention and more adoptions. Again, a very stupid idea because it only leads to bad publicity which means less donations which is what shelters completely run on.

Either way this looks like the result of adding someone who probably never had any skills in managing a non profit business being put in charge with little direction.

I used to work for a lady that pulls from that shelter. She has gotten as many as 7 at a time, gets them vaccinated, gets a apay/neuter voucher, and gives them away to loving homes. I actually got a kitten from her before I started working for her, he's 4ish years old now and is a whopping 17 pounds. Rowan is one of the worst shelters out there, so she does what she can with what she has. Pic related, my "little" kitty.
