I lost a very close friend today and I don't really have anyone to share this feeling with. Oscar was the name of my 6 year old tabby and he was an indoor outdoor cat who loved being around me. I hope there's a special place for our creatures that we become attached to who eventually perish. Anyways wanted to share this thought, I'll post a few pictures of him.

RIP.

Also brace yourself for people being nasty to you for letting him outside.

Thank you all. It was just a cat, but he had a very unique personality for a cat. I was mainly a dog person previously

Aw sorry to hear that; I know it's tough at first....You gave him love and a good life though. What more can you ask for?

Get him memorialized! I had my sweetie painted. I've yet to hang it; just moved to a new house.

What's wrong with outdoor cats?
>>
>>2311050
They kill native wildlife and typically have shorter lifespans due to predators, cars, fights with other cats, humans, lack of proper vet care, disease, exposure to the elements, etc.
>>
>>2311050
Nothing as long as you are a responsible pet owner that cares for the animal.

If you're one of those mexicans that thinks a feral stray eating out of the dumpster in your shitty apartment complex near you is a "pet" then you are human scum.
>>
>>2311054
That just sounds like facts. Not bad things. If I don't want a cat but one comes around I'm willing to throw it a fucking bone once in a awhile
>>
It's because he has eleven penises
>>
>>2311034
Not OP but you know what man. You're a sad shit human I pity you.
>>
Why did he die?
>>
>>2311085
Renal failure out of no where.
Doc said he might have eaten a poisinous plant or was attacked by a snake/ect... my neighbor owns chickens and I suspect they may have been trying to keep the coons away with poisoned food and he may have got into it. That's entirely speculation though, he could've eaten a poison frog.
It's just weird cause he was very accustomed to outside life and knew what was dangerous. That's why I think it may have been the neighbors.
>>
>>2311032
Was it just my tabby or all tabby that act like dogs.

He wasn't a normal cat by any means, he wanted to follow me when I'd walk and had the mannerisms of a dog.
>>
>>2311146
Why would you try to blame your neighbors? If there is poison around the coop, that means something is hassling the chickens. If your cat got into it, that means it was hurting the chickens.

Still, it sucks to lose a pet. I've seen outdoor cats over a decade old still behave absolutely retarded. Like straight up munching on the poisonous christmas plants a neighbor just planted or batting around a foaming toad. In the end, it's just cheaper to have a catproof fence. Less heartbreak.
>>
>>2311146
Renal failure is a pretty common cause of death amongst old cats, they just suddenly get it and fade away over the course of a couple of days.
Maybe it was someone's fault. Maybe it was nobody's. The important thing, though, is that you tool proper care of him and that you loved him dearly.
If you DO suspect your neighbors poisoned your cat, though, I suggest you keep an indoors-only cat if you get another one. Or get proof and sue them.
>>
>>2311147
Tbh I've had experience with two cats who weren't tabbies yet behaved like that. Some cats are just more loving and docile than others
>>
>>2311147
My guy does that too. He plays fetch with a his toy mouse and never fucking leaves me alone.

My mom's short hair silver Tabby is nothing like that though, just a fat sack shit
>>
>>2311179
Thanks for the words. I would def. If I was to ever get another cat I'd adhere to that.
>>
>>2311008
you fuckign disgusting asshole. aawww he kills things!!!! oh no he died!!! what's wrong with you?
>>
>>2311059
>that just sounds like facts not bad things

if you think killing native wildlife, getting eaten by predators, and getting hit by cars aren't bad things you are a retard
>>
>>2311211
They are things. They happened way before you and I were ever born. It doesn't matter if there are outdoor cats. Nothing changes because society has had outdoor urban cat and barn cat populations for centuries. It's nothing new.
>>
>>2312208
People have also been killing themselves for thousands of years. Better get on it, you non-sequitur spewing faggot.
>>
>>2312208
Using blind ignorance as an excuse for negligence is nothing new either apparently.
Still doesn't make it right. Educate yourself.
>>
>>2310976
Sorry about your loss, OP. I lost my cat last May and my other one is about to go too for the same reason, failing kidneys. I think most of us here who have had cats know exactly what you mean that they are more than just animals. It's amazing how much personality they have.

That picture of him is really cute. On the one hand it's sad because he's obviously not feeling well, but on the other look how well cared for he is, wrapped in a towel and has that heating pouch under him. I know it's a sad situation but he looks cute there. I'm sure if he could he would thank you for doing all you could to make him comfortable.
>>
>>2312208
>Guys guys I just discovered nietzsche did you know nothing matters XDDDDDDDD

Why do retards like you always end up using dead philosophers as an excuse to be lazy cunts?
>>
>>2312208
well murder has always happened and always will happen so you won't mind if I kill you and your family right haha
>>
He looks awesome OP.

Go to the shelter and get another one. Too many lonely animals in small cages.

I had to put down my baby on September last year. This is what she looked like a few days before. She couldn't move her back legs, no control over her bowels and bladder(hence the mess of newspaper), barely any in her tail. It was like this for a week and a half. A week and a half of daily bathing, cleaning up, and babysitting this cat to make sure she didn't accidently snap her own neck or die in a place I couldn't reach her, all with no signs of improvements. This poor cat was a free spirit and whatever grabbed her robbed her of that.

By the end, she was broken. At this point, doing the deed was freeing her of a remaining life of sadness and pain. She wanted to be alone when she died, but that was the one thing I couldn't stand to do. This was taken an hour before she went peacefully in a drug-induced sleep. Not even a stir when they stabbed the needle into her, and no protests in the car ride there. It's as if she knew and understood why it had to end like this.

Why did it end this way? Because I've seen this song and dance far, far too many times. My grandmother never put down her gravely ill dogs or took them for anything more than a diagnosis. I've seen two great animals essentially rot to death, because of some virtue signaling holier-than-thou bullshit over not putting them down. And finally, because I had already not been there for a pet in their last moments once this year. This fuzzy mess of doggo is my girl, Cena. One night, after being a little sick for a good 3 days, she started puking all over the house. Of course, I couldn't just let her do that, so, I put her downstairs with her bed, chained to a table so she had some sort of movement without puking everywhere. I kissed her and her companion, a chihuahua named Paco goodnight, cleaned up, went to sleep... I woke up, she was gone. And it only hit me a few hours later that I wasn't there for her during a time she needed me. The chihuahua broke out of his kennel to comfort her, and he was down there with her body for... God knows how long. I have 3 mistakes in my life thus far
>not joining the boy scouts
>not keeping fit enough to enlist
>and not letting my dog have one final night next to me
When the time came for my cat to go, I did everything I could short of curing her illness.

In the end, I think I did right by her as well as I could. But when she died, a MASSIVE chunk of my childhood memories went with her. We found her when I was 4 years old, before my sister was even born, and I was 19 when she died. You can do the math yourself there. Don't worry though, Sweetie. I'll join you, Cena and all of the others in a good 60-70 years.
See you, space kitter.

Yo, fuck the Janitor for deleting my comment. This isn't /LoveMyShittyEcologicalPestAnd ComfortMeWhenItDiesEarlyFromMyNegligence/, it's /an/. We're not here to circlejerk your feefees and tell you that it isn't your fault that your cat only made it to 6 before it died. Or that keeping your cat outdoors isn't quintessentially abuse.
You killed your cat, op. Not the neighbor.
OPs outdoor cat is better off dead, the immediate environment is better off with OPs cat dead, and I hope the Janitor that deleted my post joins the cat.
>>
>>2312763
Not the anon you replied too, but you did tell OP their dead cat looks awesome.
