Why do birds and reptiles come in all kinds of colours, yet mammals don't have blue/green/bright red fur and only have shades of yellow or grey?

That's actually not any blue pigment making those colors. I forgot what causes it, exactly but I remember looking it up.

Also to answer OP's question - pigments and light(in the case of bird feathers). Birds and reptiles also have more pigments than mammals can produce.

>it's actually not blue, it just looks blue
The same thing applies to blue bird's feathers.

Yes, which I mentioned. Light. I don't believe reptiles have blue pigment either but I could be wrong. I'm not very versed in herps.

On the topic of colors, they can be influenced by diet too. Flamingos and cardinals come to mind. Here's some interesting links about colors in animals.

It may be because many mammals evaluate each other based on social qualities rather than aesthetics alone. Youll see that among corvids. They have an incredibly complex social structure which may weigh in more for mating than looks.

There's plenty of mammalian species with a high degree of sexual dimorphism.

that's just algae
>>
>>2298685
And the green color in birds and reptiles is just pigments or light refraction

because mammals are lame as fuck
>>

Not really true OP but it's less common because most mammals see a limited range of color in comparison to animals like birds

So they would see something like a cardinal to be brown.

It's like that bat is from Halloween themed coloring book or something.

Birds of some species can see ultraviolet and their feathers are even more colorful than we can see. Pigmentation tends to follow the ability to see more colors. Many animals can see yellow, which is why toxic frogs and snakes and stinging insects tend to be yellow and black
