I wanna shave my friends Maine Coon because she's old and can't care for her fur properly and gets knots. It's also hot where I live and she wants to always be in air conditioning. Will human clippers do the job or will I need special animal groomer clippers? She's pretty chill having me cut her hair so I don't think a groomer is necessary plus I used to shave my dog a lot.

PROTIP: IN Australia it gets very FUCKING HOT. "No Ice" is a very common distress call of the Australian in summers plight.

I tried using Human clippers but they weren't working. I was real gentle though.

I have no experience with shaving cats, but I do have experience with washing an elderly cat.
Make sure you dry the cat really well otherwise the cat will smell horribly. It's pissy fur will be magnified when wet.
I would consider taking her to the groomers, and asking if you can watch or pick their brains for information.
In the very least when she's all done, you can see how they cut her fur and where, and then try yourself. If you ask enough questions you may be able to get an idea of what kind of tools you need to DIY.
Grooming does take some skill.
The only con for your cat to go to the groomers is the stress involved. I don't know if it would be worth it.
