How do you cope with the loss of a pet? I just found out my 11 year old doggo has lung cancer. On the way to the vets with my father to say our last goodbyes.
Pic related. Bandit, Cairn terrier, ultimate lizard terrorizer.
I think about this a lot.
OP here.
Goodbyes have been said. Poor boy whined every time he moved in my or my fathers arms. The vet showed us xrays of his lungs, they were filled with cancer. I live with my mother, and so has he. I got him when I was twelve, so he's lived in that house all his life. My mother is a heavy smoker, I'm trying not to let in thoughts of her being the ultimate reason why my boy was in so much pain.
OP back once again. Showing the last picture taken of my boy. He was so good. May all your doggos be good, and may you all be good to your doggos.

Thanks Anon, I seriously needed that.
This is why you buy a snake or other long lived pets so you don't have to deal with pet loss for a long time.

Plus if it dies it's just a fucking snake, lol

I can't even begin to tell you how sorry I am that you had to say goodbye to your little buddy, I extend my deepest sympathies. He's a real handsome little guy and I'm sure you gave him the best life you could and choosing to put him down before he could suffer more from the lung cancer is part of that. Whether you believe in the afterlife or not, just know that he's not in pain anymore and went surrounded by people he loved. It's not gonna be easy not having him around anymore but as the old saying goes, don't cry because it's over, smile because it happened.

Totally unrelated, but I lost my brother to pancreatic cancer last week. This has me in tears.
Thank you.
