WHY ARE THEY HOLDING THEM LIKE THIS?! REEEEEEEEEEE
>>
>>2295418
That's how you are supposed to hold them. It's less stressful for the animal. Their tails store fat so they are basically padded. They are also quite muscular. It also keeps them from climbing and jumping down. They are quite strong for their size and a fall could hurt them pretty bad. Long story short it's just safer for them.

That anon brings a good point.
Nobody is going to move to Australia, jump through all the legal hoops, and try to adopt an endangered animal like a platypus.
So in the meantime this is a hug box for a strange looking, unachievable pet for everyone to circle jerk about.
Which is completely fine BTW, I'm just saying try not to make the thread something it's not.

Unfortunately they do take a bit more than a small pond to take care of them. They eat a lot. You need a bunch of breeder reactors of different invertebrates. You need to be able to produce about 40-50% of their body weight in food every day.

OP, if you really love platypi, you shouldn't compel people to want one on a whim. What if some crazy rich person stumbles upon this thread and caves?

>>
>>2315309
Not long ago I read that poison could be used for fighting diabeetus.
>>
>>2315132
It is very different. They need a mother platypus or at bare minimum a surrogate echidna to produce milk for it. My and your best bet is to catch one as it emerges from the burrow for the first time. this is when they are most vulnerable and the most adaptable to captivity. because of platypus's environment their first emergence also lines up with them being washed down river. My plan is to camp an international water way with a tributary feeding into it with a thermal camera. That way I can catch a puggle in international waters. They used to be considered fur bearing mammals and I don't think that has been changed in international law. Either that or I need to just go up an unoccupied stream and get one laws be damned. It will be years before I have the means to keep one ethically though.

There are only 17 platypi left in the world, and thank god. Poisonous, man-eating things, they dwelled in the sewers of Australia for centuries and were responsible for no less than 6 plagues over 3 centuries, and attacked and ate numerous settlers, especially children.

They are easy to detect when close, despite how silently they slither through the shadows, for their pungent smell is much like the corpses of dead pets they feed on after they've invaded a human settlement and begin by picking off the kittens and puppies first, then graduate to the elderly, with grandmas face being gnawed off in her own bed, her screams paralyzed by the platypus's poisonous tongue snaking down her throat, with his fangs sunk deep in her eyeballs, poor granny flailing helplessly to stop him before he finally lets go and begins chewing her face and leaving the stripped and bloody bones when he is full.

Once he decimates the family pets and elderly, the next week he will likely pick off smaller prey, children, popping out of the toilet at night and roaming the darkness of the house looking for prey. If he finds sleeping children, he will spit green poison in their face after wrapping them in a slimey web, and drag them back down into the sewers. When the child wakes back up, he will see the platypus eating his face. Platypuses are the reason we only have Christmas once a year instead of once a month; for it was the platypi that devoured most of Santa's elves and a third of the reindeer.

And that is what I will tell children every time I see a platypus thread on page one.

I have the original blue prints for a platypusary. I have been studying the works of Henry Burl and David Fleay as well as current facility at Healsvill. Two important things to remember is that the platypusary must be insulated from electrical fields and percussion. Winston the platypus died during transport to England during WWII when the ship he was on had to fire depth charges at a German u boat. It's said that a gunshot close to a platypus can kill it because they are so sensitive to certain types of percussion.
