Being an easy prey was a major factor for the extinction of many animals by human hands in the past, just look at the Dodo.
Now look at this. Look at all the meat this defenseless animal has. How this isn't even endengered?

I hope it never goes extinct because the capybara is fucking delicious. If you're ever in the Peruvian Amazon I highly recommend ordering some at a restaurant.

well wet rodents don't look appetizing. reminds me of a mop. also the rivers they live by have caimans and anacondas and piranhas and jaguars and shit. Kinda dangerous to go hunt them. I'm just guessing though.

The real reason is just that rodents breed really fast.
