Being an easy prey was a major factor for the extinction of many animals by human hands in the past, just look at the Dodo.
Now look at this. Look at all the meat this defenseless animal has. How this isn't even endengered?

well wet rodents don't look appetizing. reminds me of a mop. also the rivers they live by have caimans and anacondas and piranhas and jaguars and shit. Kinda dangerous to go hunt them. I'm just guessing though.
